2007 Nissan Murano S 3.5L (VQ35DE) (RE0F09A)

Hello every. I have a customer requesting the cvt filter be changed. I inspected the vehicle for other reasons and this is being asked as part of maintenance. I took vehicle for a 20 minute test drive and it drove fine as far as transmission is concerned. I’ve only ever drained these transmissions. What is everyone’s advice on this as I have found the parts available. It is high mileage 230k and the fluid looks ok but smells used. Thanks guys

Best recommendation to pass, too much liability we had two of them send for overhaul at the dealership.

I dont think we have ever changed the screen as a maintenance item. Out fluid exchange machine does it thru the dipstick tube, which is nice Since you have driven it my best advice would be sure to prescan it Not that they do not go bad but that is one of the better cvt models

Yes I’ve not serviced the filter myself. I was pricing parts and found it was available. I had told customer that I didn’t think it was to be done on cvt. Thanks for the info

Alldata doesn’t show a service schedule at all. So I talked the customer out of it. It’s the daughters in high school. Too many miles on a multi owner vehicle. Were not doing it. They trust my opinion thank goodness

I believe it has an external inline filter, no big deal, dont remove the pan, it has a drain plug. Inform the owner 1st that these transmissions are problematic &^ they typically have a limited lifespan but that changing fluid & filter every 40,000km is a good idea Road test & scan for any codes & also note the fluid degradation data listed 1st for any issues if all ok change the…

I called and specifically asked nissan at some point about the filters in their transmissions. They told me that pretty much every Nissan since the early 2000s has a wire screen for a filter that is not intended to be regularly serviced.

Yes I’ve never done a filter kit to a Nissan. And honestly have hardly done any in a while. Alldata doesn’t even show a service schedule for fluid. So another lifetime deal lol this vehicle has too many miles to start trying to walk a straight line. It’s the daughters vehicle she is in high school. I say ride it til she Is ready for college then trade it

I agree as well. Used to be a Nissan tech and we never changed the filters. As was stated, they are a wire mes screen. We only used the BG Products (Love their stuff) transmission flush machine.
