JLR/SDD system requirements 1
Hey guys quick question. With GM ending support for Windows 7 soon I have the opportunity to buy a laptop cheap from a coworker at the dealer for JLR/SDD. My question is this, is JLR going to be updating there requirements for laptops anytime soon?? Does anyone know?? Windows 7 is very old. I dont want to buy a laptop specifically for JLR/SDD an then 6 months later when I go to use it they have changed the system requirements. Anyone have any insite?? Thanks.
Hey Caleb, I think that they are going to have to do some updating. With that said I do not think a company the size of JLR will do something that is backward compatible and if they do it will not be a full backward integration. I think you will still be glad to have a fresh if outdated SDD tool running.
Ok Donny thanks. That was the reason for my question since Windows 7 is so old it seems like they would move on sooner than later.
I'm currently revamping my JLR laptop as we speak due to a hard drive failure. From what I've gathered, SDD will run on Win 10 64-bit, however it needs to be Win 10 IOT on a Panasonic CF-54. I believe if you were to acquire a CF-54 you could install SDD using the Panasonic Win 10 patch on IDS central. You can see the laptop JLR sells here…
I am still running SDD and Pathfinder on my win 7 CF53 purchased thru bosch with sdd loaded on it.Topix had Panasonic serial numbers of cf53`s that were compatible on there site but the new machines are cf54`s with win 10.
No Brandon, you understood correctly. I work at a General Motors Dealer. GM is ending Windows 7 support the end of this year. 1 of my co workers has a Windows 7 laptop that will work perfect for SDD. I have actually used it before with SDD when I needed it a few months back.
Well, with that information and assuming the price is right, you could always purchase it and use it as a Win 7 SDD computer until support runs out knowing that you could put Win 10 on it and use SDD as well. Even though Win 7 support from Microsoft is ending soon, JLR can still very well keep pushing updates that are Win 7 only for however long they want. But, because they're the OEM and get to…
one thing you could try doing is get a windows 10 laptop and run a windows 7 with JLR/SDD vm. This is something I been wanting to try and people have told me it works great but I have yet to have time to see how well it will work.
I am sorry guys the reply I gave to Davids post was meant for Brandon.

We have 24 toughbooks in our dealership. 50-50 mix of CF53 and CF54 machines. most of the 53’s are running Windows 7 32bit and upgraded with SSD hard drives. the 54’s are running either windows 10 IOT or 10 pro without a problem. It is true that they are phasing out windows 7 due to no more support from windows. JLR is going to switch to dell rugged books in the near future.
