Keys wont program after ecm replacement
Replaced ecm with used for unrelated issue and attempted to relearn original keys with autel ms906bt and had failure message any way I attempted learning.
I attempted learning again with autoland iscan that I have used on nissans many times in the past. Operation completes but security light remains solid when it is suppsed or flash and after several ignition cycles ignition will no longer turn on as if there is no key. I have tried old ecm and still no luck.
It is the push button with key slot to left of steering wheel. Thanks in advance for anyone able to shed any light. Vehicle ran with both provided keys before attmpting ecm replacement.
Sorry I did forget some info as nelson pointed out. I have not found any aftermarket equipment. Autel scanner ends with operation incomplete check operation condition. I tried the 5523 code just now that Joe phoned me and recommended. No luck there same result on autel and autoland says pin invalid. I am using decrypted pin from bcm and autoland accepts that pin.
Check that there’s no aftermarket alarm installed. I had a case where there was an inactive aftermarket alarm module cause an issue with the intelligent key slot module.
My understanding is that the SLOT are Notorious for failure….saw a couple myself….can be Tested by inserting Key Cloner Sniffer antenna inside of Slot….it Should excite Sniffer and tell U whether its working or not….I carry a New 1 in the van so that i can get a job finished in a pinch. I understand the ELS is is also failure prone (07-12 Altima….maybe others)….but id think this not the case as…
Is the key slot the antenna on this model or only used for programming? I will have to locate a sniffer.
Not only is slot used for Programming, if FOB battery is dead, Smart key can be placed in Slot for starting the car. I dont believe Slot is an antenna used for Keyless functions. Another thing, im thinking this is a Twist ignition….and thinking those Require a Chipped key be programmed prior to programing the Smart key. If an IMMO scan is done, it will tell U how many T-keys and how many Smart…
Not trying to be a smart ass or anything but 08 altima's are not twist ignitions. Its a normal push start button with the emergency slot. Twist ignitions do not have additional slots beyond the twist ignition itself. You are correct that the slot is not used for keyless in anyway, it uses a system more akin to a standard key turn with antenna rings completely separate from keyless feature.
So as far as starting and running vehicle the slot to the left of the column is not involved?
Hey, U probly right….I work on all sorts of these things….and now that U mention it,, it makes sense…..Im thinking of a Sentra possibly(with Twist) I appreciate U correcting me on this Not being a Twist ign. But hey, at least i was Right about the Slots being notoriously Bad!….lol
It is not twist ignition. If the slot is for programming and dead battery then this makes perfect sense that this part would be failed and gone unoticed prior to me trying to use it. Thank you very much.
Yea the slot on this one is only used for programming and when fob is bad/battery in its dead.
Well im really starting to think that is the issue. Does anyone have a recommendation on a affordable sniffer?
VVDI Key Tool Mini is typically about $125ish….but requires a cell phone for use(to be fully functional) Key tool Max is about $275…stand alone I have a Lonsdor KH100 available….Brand New….never registered 175(free ship) Im not aware of a Cheaper RF detector(for typical key use/Generation…..but id think there is something out there. There is a Coil/RF detector on Ebay for <$10….but its…
Last time that happened to me was because I made a mistake in the programming sequence, bcm got locked and wouldn' turn ignition on again,, new bcm was required. Hopefully that's not your case
I can turn ignition in but only when attempting programming. With nothing plugged in to obd and a battery reset ignition will not turn on. I use the flashers to wake up bcm and beg him the programming and ignition then works.
So ,without tool connected if you press the start button does it say “no key detected”
Well it shows a symbol in took as no key detected. Its the symbol show inserting the key into the slot. Just as it does when it reminds you to remove key but with arrow the other direction.
Well that's a good sign . I lost everything when happened to me. So yes maybe is just the key box on left of column which is a common problem and like you said maybe it was bad already since only is used for programming and dead fob battery. Time to go to junkyard to get one. Good luck
Thanks man. That would make sense. I appreciate your thoughts
Same issue. I ended up going into the engine remote start relearn in the autel and it did the trick. Apparently a software glitch
I have not tried that because my autel says for japanese models only but i will certainly try. Thank you
You have to correct vin in replacement ecm before it will let you match bcm with ecm. (keys are programmed in bcm which then syncs with ecm.) Then you need to go into bcm and use the ecm replaced option, not simple key programming. This car does not use 5523 pin. You will need to convert the pin from bcm label.
I have vin matched and have used correct pin but had report of the old style pin working in cases like mine so just gave it a shot.
Did you register the key under special functions in the BCM after the key learn process was finished? If not the lamp will stay on.
I did not see any option for that. All commands used have been through bcm module. I did the steering wheel unlock to clear keys then nats initialization thats a package deal for immo and ikey functions from my understanding.
Hello Brandon. Do you have the CODE for this vehicle to convert into pin code? What FCC ID is written on the fob? If you need help I can be reached at …, THANK YOU
See if you have a label on the Immo under the steering column as pictured. If you do, I can get you the PIN.
I am waiting on the key slot. I will update when I receive the part.
