Autel Scan Tool Backup and Subscription Renewal
Does your Autel subscription expire soon? Has it already expired and you don't have a backup? Do you have the funds set aside to buy a subscription renewal today?
If your subscription has already expired you are playing with fire. The only way to recover the software without a backup is the price of an update, or a new scan tool. With <$10 it is an easy recovery via backup.
To create a backup, simply insert the Micro SD card into your tool and open the base screen (not the diagnostic application). Then open ES File Explorer. There you will find two instances of SD Cards. Open the internal drive, usually label "SD_CARD" or similar. Hold your finger on "SCAN" to bring up lower menu. Select copy. Now open the external SD card, label "EXT_SD" or similar.
Paste the copy of "SCAN" here. Depending on model of scan tool this can take up to 3 hrs. Once this is done, remove the SD card and store it somewhere safe where it will not be damaged. It is very small so store it somewhere you're not going to forget it.
Now take the second 32 GB card, insert it into your Autel/Auro tool and repeat the above process. Leave this one in your tool after backup. Update this once a month until your subscription expires, swap with the other backup, repeat.
Now you don't have to stress it when something crashes.
The Autel line of tools will only recognize up to 32 GB Micro SD Cards. I highly recommend buying this pair of 2x 32 GB Micro SD cards to create redundant backups in case of file corruption.
This is great info! Wish I knew about this before it happened to me .
Great info Isaac. I've been doing this since the beginning, after hearing all the horror stories. I highly recommend everyone do this for their tools. It takes a while, but it's definately worth the effort.
I have not used an Autel but am looking at that option when Snappy finally stops supporting the Verus Pro. Can you explain the subscription? Do I have to pay a subscription to use an Autel scanner?
So when you buy it . It will come with a one year subscription so you can update as many times in that year. Once that is up you would buy another subscription.
Thanks Chris, what I mean is it sounds to me from reading the post above is that when a subscription runs out, you can't use the scanner until you buy another. I only update every other year with my Verus.
No you can still use the scanner. But if the software crashes like mine and you don’t have it saved then you Can not use it. If it’s not saved then the only way to recover it would be to purchase a new subscription which is what I had to do.
How much is a new subscription out of curiosity? I don’t own the tool, but I have heard sone tools cost a pretty penny to update.
Depends on which model of the tool you have. But I believe 800-1200.
Contact AES it is less than you think. Updated one of my tools with Carlos last week.
You can buy update for like 650.00 online. The cool thing about autel is the update keeps the hardware under warranty. My was out off date and the top part of touch screen stopped working bought update and sent it in.
I am new to the site and have a maxisys elite. It is running out of room for the updates so I factory reset it and downloaded all of the updates again. One week later it said it was full again. What I was wondering was if I put an sd card in the slot, will it use that as extra memory and keep updating for the rest of my subscription or not? Also if I renew the subscription, obviously it wont…
I was under the impression that the autel scanners, such as model mk 808 for example, would lock out after a year of use without purchasing a subscription? Are you saying you can backup the system and avoid this? I havent purchased an autel scanner because of the high cost of the subscription.
