Hyundai accent no heat
Hello, group. I hope someone put some light on this issue. No history of this car available since owner just bought 3 weeks ago. This is 2007 hyundai 1.6l accent manual tyranny. It has no heat at idle, right now we have -20c temperature. If I let this car idle few hours only produce very little warn air.. When Rev up the engine air start to getting hotter. On highway it heats enough. We couldn't find any leak in the system. Replace the thermostat from dealer since after market wasn't available. Flushed heater core couple of times. Temp goes upto 94 c if I hold the rpm on 3000 for little bit. Once let go the gas temp drops to 70 75c. Temp also drop when heater fan on high speed. Another thing I noticed, lower rad hose stay cold ( 6c) and upper stays hot (80c) at idle. It seems like engine isn't producing enough heat. As soon I let go the gas temp would fall almost 20c. I'm kinda outta idea in this vehicle. Radiator fan never comes since it never reach the temperature. Is there any common internal problem on these hyundai engine? Or may I'm just missing something simple. Rad cap is also new.it had misfire codes in history but no misfires. . Thank you
Is it actively misfiring? If only half the engine is working it won't get hot. I've seen partially plugged heater cores behave this way. Flushing isn't always a fix. What are the heater hoses going to the heater core at temp wise? Is one hot and one cold? Is there a defective heater valve? I'm not familiar enough with this engine, but other vehicles with plastic impellers on water pumps have…
Is this a timing chain or belt engine? Had a honda with a very similar situation that had a stiff timing belt driven water pump that would slip at low rpm and hardly move enough at high rpm. Once the wayer pump was removed it was hardly moving by hand. New belt and pump kit all was well. With your low ambient temp it might not be moving the heated water enough to warm the heater core. A temp gun…
Wouldn't bad water overheat the vehicle? It's timing chain engine ' water pump driven by belt.
Wasnt sure on the timing drive of this one just a guess. Figured in your low temps could be possible. I would agree with checking temps of lines in and out of heater core as well.
Shane Elliot has some good suggestions and about covered it. How did you flush it ? Did you do the core itself, in both directions with a pressure flush gun that uses water and air ? (After flushing the rad and block) Some engines are a real pain to get all the air out of the cooling system. What temp does the engine reach ? I use a laser temp gun because a vehicle sensor may be wrong…
I flushed the coolant.. and flushed core from both sides' even put crl in it left it for about 20 mins then flushed with water and compressed shop air. Thermaltake been replaced with oem.
Are those temperature reading from scantool? Hows the temperature gauge on the cluster? The way you said it will fall 20 degree once you let go of the gas? Wheres is that reading that you are monitoring from? Engine temp? Temperature gun on the vents? Looks like coolant is not circulating enough in my opinion. This is equppied with timing belt, and chain at the back of the…
Hello Uplar, Wow, -20C is -4F, that is very cold. Your problem description sounds like a poor flow issue which indicates water pump and thermostat operation. Have you measured the Ph of the antifreeze/ coolant to make sure it is not partially becoming slush at that temp? Old fluid will create problems like this and is often overlooked. It may also help to partially block the radiator…
Hehe -20c is just a normal winter day in much of Canada. -40 is not uncommon. Especially in the Prairie provinces. We use a 60/40 coolant mix here at our shop. He flushed the system so I would assume it has new coolant. Blocking the rad with a cover of some type is usually a sign of a badly running system. (Unless it is a diesel) A good functioning system on a normal vehicle definitely won't…
Hi Roy, Canada is wonderful country to visit, but I still prefer Texas. It's currently 72 degrees in my area today, I was raised in the mountain area of Virginia, and it had some cold Winters, but not like what you folks see. I was glad that I was prepared last year when we suffered a hard freeze for a couple of weeks this far South. It is very rare for this area to have such temps for more…
Temps here, like any big country, depend on location. For example, Southern Ontario is as far south as Northern California so it doesn't get the same temperature range that the prairies does. Same with the coastal areas. Temps in my city go from -40F to +95F. Much like Minnesota an hour south. They often have colder temps even being further south. They hit -60F a couple decades ago. The…
Yeah -20 is very common 'it's been below - 20 25 for whole week so far. Coolant is new ' since we flushed it with chemicals.
Good morning Upkar, You wrote: “Flushed heater core couple of times. Temp goes upto 94 c if I hold the rpm on 3000 for little bit. Once let go the gas temp drops to 70 75c. I'm sorry, 94 and 70c was engine temp checked on my scanner and laser gun ' not at the heat core. I called dealer unfortunately they don't list anything for colder climates neither aftermarket for this specific vehicle.
Check airflow in the vents and for clogged cabin air filter. We had a matrix in this week that had bad heat.. the cabin air filter was so clogged that the heater core had to get really hot before you noticed any heat in the vehicle.
I would try alternating water and air in both directions of the of the heater core to be sure it is not clogged and then use a vacuum fill on it to be sure there is not air in the system. The difference in temps at the hoses would indicate a thermostat not controlling the temp properly. Since it is new I would be thinking air is somehow preventing it.
Given the age, I suspect heater core is restricted that no amount of flushing will correct. Had a VW that was back every three days to flush heater core, for three cycles. Heat would last about a day. I would catch what I flushed out to check progress of sediment that was removed. I believe some of it was stop leak product, but nevertheless, heater core replacement was the only solution. The…
Yea that's right, when blower turn high temp drops pretty rapidly..
Hello Upkar, Could this vehicle have an outside fresh air door that is possibly malfunctioning? This would also be called a recirculation door. Typically, in hotter weather, these only operated in max AC mode to keep cool cabin air contained in the cabin. I have seen them malfunction before on many vehicles.
Pull the water pump if both inlet and outlet hoses of the heater core are hot when holding at 1500 rpm for a minute. Damaged impeller. What tells me the pump is bad is that you have heat at highway speeds. Also the tech that spoke of stop leak clogging up a core is also spot on. I’ve had mixed results with flushing heater cores. Flow when flushing seems fine but still clogged. With partially…
Heater fans on high WILL cause a drop in temperature on most vehicles. Most AC classes and climate control classes, tell you to use ¾ speed to get the highest temperature output. Not too sure what you mean by 70-75C “gas” temp? What gas? Are you talking about atmosphere temp from the vents? Anyway, gas temps at 70-75 is about 167 degrees, which is very hot from a heater system! If you're…
