Does Volvo allow J2534 Module programming
I went to Volvo site after signing into SDRM then picked the reprogramming button so I could get prices to quote a module programming job. When I clicked on it I got the attached message.
Is Volvo like MB now when it comes to J2534 programming their modules?
You have to use VIDA to do SWDL. They charge $75 for 3 days sub to VIDA and then charge by the download. Older cars will work with J2534 passthru. Newer require a Ethernet connector to OBD direct to your computer. Software charges are at list to you. Usually around $75 per download. If all goes well and you need to program one module its around $150 cost to you.
When you say Ethernet connector to OBD direct do you mean Ethernet to the laptops and a usb to the Obd dongle/Jbox or Ethernet from laptop to obd dongle?
Ethernet from laptop to car. You don’t need a jbox at all on the newer spa/cma chassis cars. 2016+ xc90, 2017+ s/v90, 2018+ xc60, 2019+ s/v60/xc40.
I have found that only IE 11 works well with their site, which is probably why you're getting the error. Volvo does allow J2534 programming. 2016 and up requires an OBD2 > Ethernet adapter. Volvo sells it for less than $40 (VOE Part number 9513108).
Does anyone have a cheat sheet of which vehicles can be programmed via J2534 and which cannot?
