California OIS - Drew Tech Update - Am I the only one stuck?

Jay Technician California Posted   Latest

Our first emission test rolled in yesterday morning and I found there was a required update to the OIS. We have the Bluetooth Drew OIS tester and supply our own PC and bar code reader.

Those updates normally go fine and don't take long. This one was different. The instructions were only on the screen for a few seconds and a web page popped up with a ‘Click Here’ to DL what likely is a driver update. Ran it, and it had a failure box pop up for a couple of seconds and was gone.

Not being one to roll over too quickly, tried many combinations of getting the file to run without luck. OIS program open, USB cable attached, both car and USB, no cable, OIS closed, reboot…

So, a call to tech support was made. Oh great - everyone busy. Left a message for a call back…. No return call yesterday. So, came in at 5:00AM our time to call again when Drew opens. Oh great - same message. Left another callback request.

So, anyone made it through the hoops that can share a nugget?

When I did the OIS update, there was a box that came up. Wanted to know what browser I used. I selected it. Then a Drew Tech site came up. Clicked on the update and it downloaded. Everything worked fine.

Thanks, Brian. Support just called and the issue is resolved. It was an issue with the registry not having permission to update the driver. Would have not have found it without support. Thanks

We updated ours yesterday with little issue. I just left the DAD plugged into a car OBD and let the update from drewtech run. Worked fine. Only issue I had was our IT Dept. blocks all executables from download.

If you do the OIS update and after it downloads and installs, then the Drewtech site page comes up just do the install and afterwards it’ll prompt you to restart the computer and everything should work fine.

As I responded to Brian, we are back up and running. The registry was blocking the driver update. Thanks for the help.
