PCM Programming Question
So I have this 2005 Cadillac XLR that will not clear the P0315 CKP Correlation not learned. I've done the relearn many times. It appears that someone installed a used ECM at some point as the VIN in the ECM does not match the cars VIN, and I know that will cause this type of issue. I have programmed many GM ECM's. I have not done an XLR. I was wondering if you think I should use my Tech-2, my MDI-2 or Cardaq3. My worry is that the MDI speed will cause an issue with this vintage and should just use my Tech-2. What say you? Thanks for the help and have a GREAT NEW YEARS!
This vehicle’s ECM is programmed thru GMLAN (CAN Bus). You should have no issue with sps2. Use the MDI 2 as it is designed to be back compatible.
more worried about using the MDI2 over the Tech2. I know the MDI is a lot faster and trying to avoid bricking it heads for Mecum next week so trying to avoid needing to locate an ECM
If it was Class 2 I would tell you to use the tech 2 but again it is not. The MDI has NO ISSUE programming CAN just Class 2. Which it does just fine with other class 2 modules removed via the splice pack.
Luckily the XLR module is shared with the 2004/5 SRX and STS 4.6 vehicles, so it shouldn't be a unicorn to find. For what it's worth, we were called to put a PCM in a 2008 Express van a little while back. They didn't tell us why up front, but when we were done we couldn't learn the crankshaft variation learn and had a P0315 code set. Upon asking the customer they revealed that that was why they…
Have you had luck with used modules of this era in sps2? Twice I tried and failed had to do other way if they fixed this issue that would be great old sps was never a problem
Manuel, My experience was for about 2 weeks after the SPS2 rollout it wouldn't let anything used through. I was telling shops that it couldn't be done anymore but you can pay me to try. At some point everything started going through. I think the oldest I remember doing was a 2006 though.
Yes this was when I was attempting then I stop even trying to use sps2 thank you for the help
I might be wrong but I am not sure using a tech2 with SPS2 is even an option anymore. I have programed a lot of older gm with Mdi2 and have never had an issue, I have had issues with the drewtec on class2 on occasion though. The only issue you might have is if the files are loaded in SPS2 at this point. They seem to be taking their sweet time with that.
Gm tech here use the mdi2 with sps and program the vin use the replace and program procedure if it will not accept the vin then that would be a problem I use my mdi2 on all Gm applications anymore or you may have to contact Techline customer support and have a Vci written anything else I can help with my number is …
I have one in my shop right now, used SPS2 , CarDaq plus3 no problem.
