Diagnostic Network & PTEN Deploy “Disaster Support” User Group to Help Vehicle Service Industry During Pandemic

Diagnostic Manager California Posted   Latest   Edited

Hello everyone,

We hope that everyone is staying as safe as possible during the pandemic, and salute everyone in the vehicle service industry that are literally putting their lives on the line to keep essential motor vehicles operating for medical professionals, emergency responders, and everyone else that needs to keep moving.

In that vein, today we are welcoming a new partner, Professional Tools & Equipment News (PTEN), who is joining with us to launch this new Disaster Support user group, designed for members to coordinate in response to disasters like COVID-19. This new user group will enable members to receive advice, source parts, post requests and offers for help, expertise, bounties, tips, and more.

Our existing tokens and bounties features allow members to easily pay each other for additional help, and could be used in novel ways for the new challenges posed by COVID-19, such as sourcing parts, inventory and additional expertise among our members. We have eliminated all token fees at this time.

If your repair shop has an excess of inventory that may be useful to others, please post it here. You can attach inventories as spreadsheets, and even embed them within your posts. If you're having trouble sourcing parts or anything else, please post here and see if anyone can help.

If you want to send money to someone else on Diagnostic Network, view their profile and hit the Tip button. Those in the US can withdraw tokens as cash to their bank accounts via their wallet. Those outside the US can contact us to find alternatives to withdrawing tokens.

Members or organizations that could use their own user group for coordinating their own internal communications can easily create open or closed user groups. Please contact us if your organization would like to create a private user group.

Once we get past the pandemic, we hope this particular user group will become the least-used part of the network, but it will remain here to be used as needed. Bookmark this message if you'd like to receive a notification if we edit it.

Good luck to everyone, and stay safe.

It's neat that we're considered essential, but if you live where nearly everybody just got laid-off there are no customers.

Hey, Geoff, as you have probably guessed, O'Reilly has cancelled the Hawaii classes. Since I have already paid for an Air BNB condo on Maui, I'm going to try to go anyway as I'd rather "hole up" in Hawaii where it is virus-killer warm than in California where it is still cold. If so, I'll try to drop by and see you (from a safe distance of course). If they shut off flights, obviously I won't be there.

With all the panic and nonsense, I actually forgot about that Phil. Never did get a flyer from them. Yeah, give a shout if you fly over. We are going to alternating days off with no work to do. I saw Bob B a few weeks ago for the "Push Button Start" class. I learned more NEW stuff in those few hours than the last 10 classes I have been to. Even bought that wand from AESWave to sense antenna output. Haven't had a chance to try it, on any known-good yet, not many cars that "new" around here.

Good to hear. I was involved in the development of that class. The 2012 Prius is mine and the 2013 with the voltage drop on the relay, plus the 2005 Prius with the blown fuse were both my mobile diagnosis jobs. This Anti-theft class, assuming I ever get to teach it there, builds on the push button class. I'm fighting depression over the suspension of my job. I still have stuff to do but I've been traveling non-stop for nearly 15 years. Now, to be told to sit at home is a tremendous jolt. So, I'm still hoping for the Hawaii trip though it will be all at my own expense.

Governor Ige just announced that ANYbody who flies in, has to self-quarantine for 14 days. He is hoping non-resdents will just not come.

Saw that, Geoff. Cancelling plane tickets today. The condo said they would allow us to reschedule so hopefully....feeling pretty bummed about it all. Hawaii is going to suffer with the drop in tourism. I'm beginning to wonder if the medicine isn't worse than the sickness.

You know it. I'll stick with evolutionary biology, and say the human race is doomed now. Hiding from this one means the next one will kill ALL of us.

If I were to go on a political rant, I would bring up insurance companies, lobbyists, steady government paychecks, and buying stocks cheap...but why bother.

See you in the fall?

Hey Michael, I don't know you but you have an unusual last name that I think I have seen on Scanshare. Do you use it? If so, could I ask a big favor? Add your vehicle information so that it will show up in the search function when we are looking for similar vehicle data. If its not you, I apologize. I use it a great deal and the more information that's there, the more valuable the database becomes.

Yes Phil that's me on there. I do try to label my captures, but sometimes I'm in a rush to be honest. All the engines that I work on are Cummins most of the time in buses. If there is something in particular you are looking for let me know and I might be able to assist.

Ahh, ok. I noticed you had some diesel exhaust system data. Maybe you could answer a question on the CP3 fuel control valve on the 6.7 in the pickups; training material says the valve is normally open and ground side controlled at a fixed frequency. Testing has shown it to be power side controlled with a variable frequency but additionally, it goes to high pressure when disconnected, which doesn't match "normally open" unless I don't understand how it works (highly possible). We have high-jacked this thread and I don't see a way to respond personally so if you could email me at pacphil@verizon.net that would be fine.
