Trunk Release Button Inoperative

Aloha, my buddies car has an odd issue after we relearned his new key FOBs to the vehicle in that the trunk release buttons now do not work on both Key FOBs. When I look at the data in the body control module it changes from lock to unlock ect when pressing the buttons but when the trunk button is pressed on both FOBs it changes to “none” and nothing happened. Before the new fobs were installed it did work with the old fob that had the unlock button broken, also the Trunk release button in the Door works normally.

thanks for your help in resolving this

sorry for the delay, my friend has been out of town and I have been unable to access the vehicle.

Did you check the part number?. Try to disconnect the battery cables, point it to each other touching the tip of the metal for 5 minutes. reconnect all and do again the relearn procedure (sorry for me English I'm Spanish)

Sound like aftermarket fobs. If they are, that is the best you will get.

The funny thing is that his aftermarket FOBs worked fine for 2 days to a week then would stop working so I told him to order from a dealership Online and now this is happening lol

If you still have one of the old ones that worked for the trunk, can you program that one as well and see if the trunk release works with that? Perhaps its not possible if all the buttons do not function.

I would try going to an auto parts store and see if the transmitter is putting out a signal with the fob with the trunk button. Some of those autoparts stores have the battery strength checker. Then you will know. I have had so many issues with aftermarket keys and fobs. If it isn't an integrated key I recommend a factory used one. Dones your scanner allow you to open the trunk through function…

I would only use oem or maybe Stratec brand. Nothing Else. Oem# for 4-Btn is 5912543 and 5-Btn is 5912545. Both are FCC: OHT… @ 315 Mhz. Dont be fooled using a 315/433 Mhz tester. Had them testing well and still not work. Best bet is Dealer Keys if your having programming issues. Transponder should test as Phillips 46 but I think you already have that since it starts. I program lots of…

Caleb. Kabel and I are both on Maui. If you go to the dealer parts dept and say anything about a key, they say "we use the locksmith around the corner".

This was not from eBay also, he went with the dealer online. I will try to clear all of the learning keys and then do the relearn The next time I have access to the vehicle.

The reason why we didn’t go directly to the dealer is because this Camaro has the recall on the folding key fob and so they don’t want to sell him the key fob with the integral folding key, they want to give him a key and give him a FOB with no key blank on it.

Yes thats correct. But I thought you needed only the fob? Sounds like that would be fine.?!
