Mercedes Key Registration
So, I have a lady with the listed vehicle. She bought this vehicle about 1 year ago. I told her then, I need to get you another key. If you lose this one, it may be an issue. Well… she lost it. My question is, can I program a new key? Or do I have to buy a module and 2 new keys? Either way, she is going to get 2 keys if I do it. I can't find in All Data if you need a master key to begin the programming
VIN-55SWF4KB8JU244186
Thanks for any input
This key can only be made by an authorized dealer. Tell her to tow it to Mercedes. No aftermarket keys for this year madel.
So even if I have a VSP, I can't program keys? Do I need to fill out an SIR on this, or have there been plenty of those filled out already?
thats correct we just had a NASTF zoom meeting last week , you can set up a account at the Mercedes’ dealer if you are a VSP then you will receive cut and programmed keys (that came directly from Germany via North American Mercedes parts manager that was in the meeting)
Ok, I have an account, and I am a VSP. I will watch the video. I saved the link, just haven’t watched it yet. thanks
Only for … models. 2014 and up (FBS4) can be programmed only at the dealer if there is a working key,
Mercedes could not care less about NASTF or the SIR.
I won't use after market keys. I will buy them from Mercedes. Are you saying the aftermarket, even with a VSP can not program these keys?
if the vehicle is registered in her name, she can go to Mercedes with the vehicle registration and picture id, drivers license, and she can order a preprogramed key from them.
i am working on a Mercedes, that is not in the owners name, what i posted is what they told me 4 days ago,
Dealer only for programming and it's going to be expensive if she doesn't have any keys. Depending on the dealer one key can run close to $1000 if all are lost.
You could give SOS Diagnostics in Canvey Oregon a call. They have helped us out s few times in situations like this. All the best Dennis
Not sure this year model but we used to buy the keys programmed from the dealer. Just had to show proof of ownership. I guess the keys don’t come pre-programmed anymore.
FBS4 keys are dealer only, you can buy them online but then they need to be programmed online with Mercedes authorized tech and scanner
Ok, Thanks for the info. Seems like the aftermarket has been shut out again. Maybe Donny will read this and offer an explanation.
As above. FBS4 can only be done in dealers, can’t get DAS3 workshop keys for them. DAS4 required and only available at dealers in UK, sure its the same worldwide.
The NASTF meeting was recorded last week and Donny had the NA Mercedes parts guy on this topic , log in and you should be able to watch the meeting
FBS4 keys can now be ordered if you're a VSP and have an active Xentry subscription. We can only order the pre programmed ones. I ordered one today. You no longer need to take to the dealer as long as you meet and follow all the requirements.
FBS4 are not pre-programmed, they are programmed using Xentry. The programmed ones (in case of all keys lost) are usually over $1000.
I'm sorry but you are incorrect. I just ordered one yesterday. It's an all keys lost situation, and it's a pre programmed FBS4 key for a 2019. Again the policy just changed, please read up. And it was no where near $1000 for my cost. If your dealer is telling you something else they are not right. Please go to startekinfo.com and under the trp section read up on all the new…
Thank you, it's a new information to me. You say full Xentry is required, but the pass thru xentry has full access to cars 2018 and up, so it should work too. Can you share at least the price range, if not the exact price?
wow, this is new to me and my dealer… they still show that All Keys Lost have to be done at the dealer.. Car is towed to dealer, tech hooks up Xentry and calls the help desk, a ticket is started, the credentials of the customer are recorded, help desk orders key, key is sent to dealer, tech calls help desk, he or she then puts key in and out for programming with help desk.. As for having Xentry…
Any Mercedes after 2013 must get key from dealer only
I appreciate everyone who responded. Very good information. I recommend everyone who is interested, to log in to NASTF and watch the TRP video from the webinar. I will mark this resolved. Thanks again
