Re-flashing Honda ECU

Greetings, all!

I seldom work on Honda modules, but I had a shop that specializes in race cars call about getting a 2014 Honda Accord re-flashed (with stock software) because they had to do some serious alterations to the vehicle. The ECU on the vehicle registers as the most up-to-date Honda programming, but the customer says there are still problems with the vehicle and they are asking to flash it again. If J2534 Rewrite detects current programming, is there any way to trick it into performing a fresh flash?

Thanks for your help.

I am not aware of any way to do that on a Honda product with IHDS / j box.

I’ve ran in to same issue with gm when there’s an aftermarket tune on it. Software will be latest release and SPS Will not allow reprogram. Talked with tech support and the only solution is to replace ecm. I know your working on Honda but I’d expect it’s a similar situation.

Depending on year of GM product, flash it to another vin and then back again will take care that.. Just make sure that other vin has at least one different cal id, and you will be. I once had one that was different vin but all the cal ids were the same and it would not change any cal ids..

Not that I am aware of. However, you can buy an hp tuner and make changes to whatever is causing a problem. Outside of that, try getting an ecm from a salvage yard. Just a thought.

Honda iHDS once you hook it up it reads current software if it needs a flash it will prompt you, if it doesn't need one it will also say software up to date. If that vehicle is modified to race then you will need to go to a tuner to put in dyno and tune it. There is no factory software that will make car run ok if its modified tuner, Hondata, Neptune, Kpro are the most reputable

unfortunately I don’t know of a way to force flash the ecu. But the question I have now. Is what issue are they having? Misfire issues because they put a clutch kit on it?

Hi Kyle, we operate a race team that specializes in Honda/ Acura K24 platforms. If you can give me specifics on what issues the vehicle is having, and customers concerns, I can try and help you sort out what needs to be done. Was this a track car that is being put back to stock? Or is it being modified for off road circuit racing? Try and find out what mods are currently changed with vehicle…
