P0089 — Fuel Pressure Regulator "A" Performance
P224D — Alternative Fuel Tank Shutoff Valve "A" Control Circuit Performance/Stuck Off
Reduced Engine Power Mode

I can not resolve problems with these two codes related to fuel pressure on my 2014 equinox with a 2.4 liter engine, vehicle keeps going into reduced engine power mode even after installing a new high pressure injector pump and low side pressure sensor ????

Hello Jeffrey, The “A” control circuit issue usually means a wiring or connector issue. Look for any signs of rodents damaging wire insulation, especially under the fuse box, they love tiny places to snack.

Any chance you mean P228D? Has it had a motor or head swap? How does it run?

It runs great until limp mode and yes I meant p228d, original motor, 88 k, just swaped it into a 2010 equinox, bought it(2014 equinox) wrecked for engine. No wiring issues, Im thinking maybe fuel rail sensor under plenum. Engine and all sensors were identical, however code indicates problem with fuel line feed sensor which I replaced. still not sure whats up.

Hi Jeffrey, If I'm reading this correctly you put a used engine from a 2014 Equinox into your 2010 Equinox, right? The engine RPO code for 2010 was LAF and the 2014 was LEA. I don't know if this is your problem, but it appears like 2010 is the only year you can use according to car-part.com

Scott is correct, this is a non-compatible swap. The high pressure fuel pump lobes on the intake cam are positioned differently on the LAF engine vs the LEA engine, so the ECM isn't able to control the high pressure pump correctly. You also can't use the 2014 ECM because its a Global A car.

So if I were to swap the intake cam and phaser and throtle body it should work. Is this correct?

I've not tried it, so all I can do is wish you luck! If I were you I'd look for a 2010 or 2011 LAF engine, much less risk.

Yes you should be okay. I've seen other people do it. There is a bulletin from gm PARTS describing this anomoly which commonly happened when ordering a replacement engine for a 2010. They stopped selling a 2010 engine and started shipping the 2011 with cautions which are covered in the bulletin.

Ditto, on the wrong camshaft and/or engine. Have seen this multiple times.
