2000 S500 All Keys Lost
This is one of my employee's cars. He lost his one and only key. He purchased an aftermarket. I have an Autel IM608 and tried to program the key to the car. It asks for a password (which I don't have), I tried the extract password function on Autel but it fails. I was told the vehicle was too old for this function on this tool. I called Mercedes and was told a new key no longer comes pre programmed for this vehicle, about 5 years ago he lost the key and we were able to purchase a pre programmed key. I'm I doing something wrong? Some guidance would be appreciated.
Thank You, Mike
You have to remove EIS perform bench programming
Steve, Can you elaborate on the process? Is my IM 608 capable of this?
I haven’t done yet but yes im608 can instruction on scanner for bench procedure. I know some locksmith get $250 charge
Ok I’m thinking it’s the flip key you have (or he had) correct ? This key is more advanced with eeprom and other tools like tango. Or you could get the KR55 programmer which can do it quickly and easy.
Call local locksmith mobile service- may have to shop- they have program capability for reasonable fee
2000 S-Class keys are still available and come preprogrammed from MB. Order one from your local dealer.
Dealer says because of age of car they no longer sell pre programmed key
Try them again. SL, ML, and SLK keys are NLA, but this key is just like everything else through 2010. Dealer has no way to program these keys either
Just called my local dealer. Key is definitely available preprogrammed
After reading your post I called and spoke to another counter guy and he confirmed the key will start the car. The info I originally got was for a car with keyless go. Thanks Rich!
Keyless go keys come programmed to unlock and start the car like a non keyless car, but you need to assign the key track in the keyless go control unit. Does not require SCN coding or communication with MB to do that. Just a scan tool that can talk to keyless go.
I'm thinking he should buy two. If preprogrammed keys are going away for some models, it may be only a matter of time for this one as well. Never understood folks who only have one key for a vehicle.
Some folks love drama. How many times have you heard a customer say “I have to buy another key" in a whiny voice when programming a Ford.
I make them directly from EIS. I have always read the 908 with orange5 or xprog. 5 wires or so to connect to pcb. Then calculate key file with skc or im608. Then write IR key with ak500 or im608. I guess the IM608 can read the 908 mcu directly itself but I have never used it for it so can not confirm. Make sure to write the key to a unused spot. Its best to use a new spot for key generation…
The IM608 should help you do this as a Guided Function. You'll need the XP400 and if you have GBox(2) it will speed it up. I agree, you'll most likely need to remove the EIS, but again, Autel should kind of instruct you. It's going to take some time, you'll be doing a lot of waiting, so don't hesitate to walk away for a few minutes and come back periodically. Jason's video is good. This may…
I have the same Autel IM608. YES you can program a new virgin key to it. You have to remove the EIS (electronic ignition switch) out of the car and the scan tool will tell you exactly what pins to connect and step by step. You can also call Autel support once you have the ignition switch black box out of the vehicle. This particular year you can not program at OBD port the ignition switch has to…
Thanks to all that replied. Steve, Matt, Luis and Jason I followed your advise and removed the eis and programmed on the bench. I had to purchase a G-box for this. After that it was no problem… I did suggest he order a second key;)
