Immobilizer message Illuminated on the dash
Hey fellow techs,
I am looking for some input on this Bentley. The customer had the vehicle dropped off for a no start condition. The customer recently purchased the vehicle and was taking the vehicle home. The pulled into a gas station and filled up with gas. When they went to go and restart the vehicle would not and immobilizer message was illuminated on the instrument cluster. The vehicle currently is in the same state now. The first thing I have done so far was to complete a vehicle scan on the car with the VCDS Tool. I can communicate with the Access start module and the telephone module and central Convenience module. Doors Unlock and lock alarm is active. It almost appears that I have a gateway type of an issue. I am wondering if anyone has access to a set of wiring diagrams that would be willing to share. I am a bit stumped with this one until I have a bit more info. If anyone has advice or Diagrams I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Andrew
Wiring diagrams can found on the Bentley erWin site with a short term sub. You can download anything you want as well from the site. Can you post a full code scan? Is this a pushbutton start? Do you have any tools for key testing frequency/output etc??
Hey Caleb, Thanks ahead of time for your input. I have yet to download the wiring diagram files. I understand that would make finding this much easier. I attempted to purchase a day subscription but it hasn't allowed me access yet. The vehicle is a push button start and I did update the post with a Autoscan of the vehicle.
I would clear all faults and retest with a maintainer on the vehicle. Your battery voltage shows to be only 10.8 volts according to the scan. If the no comm with steering lock fault returns that is were you should start. If the steering lock is not online the car will not let IGN power up. Does the key lock and unlock the doors?? Does the customer have another key? Is the column locked?? If you…
I had done an initial scan on the vehicle and this was the secondary scan on the vehicle. The steering column lock does release when you insert the key. The key does lock and unlock the doors. Customer does have another key as well and seems to be doing the same thing. If the key was an issue then I would assume the Column Lock would not release either.
So if the scan you posted is the second scan the volts is still showing 10.8 volts on the last page. Can you connect a maintainer, clear everything and do another scan and post it please? 10.8 volts is way to low to diag an issue like this. We have no idea if the car is intentionally shutting modules down due to the low voltage. The one thing I see is it says sporadic comm with Address 05…
Hey Caleb, Sorry for the Delay in My response. I am just getting back to the reply you had. I will post another auto scan today shorty, Terminal 15 does not activate. No Dash Light either.
Gotcha, thanks. Again I would focus on the fact that the Access/Start/Auth module address 5 is offline. There are other modules with faults for that as well. You say in your OP you can comm with it though. Can we see some IMMO data from it if that is the case??
I did get a chance to charge the battery and run another scan. I found out that it made no real difference in the way the vehicle communicates. The only way that I am able to communicate with the Kessy is if I attempted communication right after inserting the Key into the Ignition. This must be one of the first system before Active. I noticed the Terminal 15 never changes when you insert the key…
Gotcha. If you clear those 2 codes in the Access/Start module do they come right back?? If so that is were you problem is. Need to diag those faults. Especially the 1 for E415. That's the push button I believe. Wonder if there is water in the Access/start module? If you hit “Advanced measured values” it will show you all the PIDs like a normal scan tool instead of trying to sift through the MVB's.
