Vehicle security/locksmith associations for Europe
Hello everyone,
Hope each and every one of you are doing well, through this tough times we are going through.
First of all, let me just say that this is a subject, i always, ALWAYS, avoided by all means for quite a few reasons. But i guess at some point we all have to touch base, with things we don't want to get our hands dirty. Bare with me on this.
So, personally i am located in Europe, and by following the news and discussions around vehicle security related subjects in US, i can't help but wander were are we, Europeans, at on this subject. What Europeans are doing for this? Where are we at and how we deal with things?
I have done (tried) a bit of a research online, but as always, google is just giving results of the "buy this, buy that" nature and a multitude of totally unrelated results with 1-2 relevant results that actually don't fit 100% what i am after.
Does anyone here know of any associations or groups or organizations of some sort, that are equivalent to what NASTF VSP would be, Europe wide? Or are we Europeans still in the stone age on this, and we absolutely must get security certifications to each and every vehicle manufacturer separately etc (if that is available at all to some VMs)? And quite possibly also each, might be different from country to country within EU?
I have noticed a sluggish but upward trend, on vehicle security, keys etc in the local market. Though one thing is clear. None is actually interested on having certifications, or doing the job "properly", and there is a massive amount of misinformation and in general no actual plans to set a line between legal and illegal. Its just a mad chaos on relevant equipment purchase, secrecy and experimentation, money and time waste without settings limitations.
As i am all in on doing things the right way, up to now i always was telling everyone to just go to the dealer on such tasks, as i always believe is better to be safe than sorry in one way or another. But that must change somehow, as none of the workshops (or even worse vehicle owners) want to do that, due to of course profit loss on one side or total cost on the other.
So it seems that i must do the big leap, educate my self on this, get certifications if possible, and then hopefully try to educate and set others in the right path by proving them that some things are not actually as they believed.
Thanks for sticking with me on this long post.
Stay safe, Paul.
vehiclesermi.eu is the EU equivalent, sadly there are many legal issues to overcome before it becomes a reality, I have been following the progress of SERMI for 5 years and have seen a lot more changes over the last 6 months and with changes already being implemented now on new vehicles I think we will see more about SERMI very soon. Hope that helps
Thanks Steven. That's exactly what i have been saying above. All that search and i did not come across SERMI. Good info mate. Cheers.
Paul you should contact Donnie Seyfer at NASTF. National Automotive Service Task Force. They have Been There Done That.
Hi Allan, NASTF isn't for US only?
You can talk to Donnie and maybe get some tips on implementing the program since they’ve already done it.
Yes EU law is totally different in so many ways compared to the USA, SERMI is your best avenue to look into, but until something is written in law it's just a waiting game while all the EU countries vote and agree on a ruling, it will come I am sure along with Euro 7 compliance
Hello, glad you people are bringing this topic up... and again bare with me. What is illegal, what is legal, in this business? Is ti legal just because a lobbyist organization is impousing their political power over individuals... that was called in the movie godfather... protection payments. you said: "...doing the job properlly". Is it doing the job properlly, accomplishing the job done?…
