Oil Leak

There is an oil leak that is coming from the engine block back at the left rear by the bell housing and about 4" above the oil pan. I found a bulletin S-B-01.45/21 that seems to identify the exact leak that I have as a leak from the drain holes that connect to the V-chamber below the intake manifold. It doesn't give any information as to what leaks under there and I am hoping someone out there has experienced this and can give some insight on what I need when I go in there. I don't think the intake manifold gasket has any oil porting anywhere so there must be a plate or something in the V and I would like to have my ducks in a row prior to opening it up.

Usually the camshaft bore plugs of the back of the head on that engine. I've not seen oil leaking into the V of a 273 before. The Service bulletin you reference if for the Diesel engines and does not apply to this vehicle. The only other common leak on that engine is valve cover gaskets.

Cam plugs are a problem or if it has a vacuum pump driven off the intake cam, those can leak too. (These leaks will not result is oil coming from drain hole area.) If…
