Under what condition is the 19,000 PSI happening? Black smoke on a diesel is a sign of a restricted air supply, and the fuel is being burning with a short supply of oxygen. Fill us in with some testing information please. The last diesel I saw like this had a few shop towels stuck in the air intake system.

I remember a story about a Detroit diesel having a finger attempting to restrict the airflow. I don't think it affected how the engine ran, though. 😜

NAW, but I will tell you one thing for sure, when a finger goes through the engine and is burned, the exhaust really stinks bad. :) That for sure was a moment in time I will NEVER forget.

Look at injector flow rates first. You really need Isuzu IDSS when working on a 4HK1 Could be anything from a boost leak to a bad egr or turbo. Also check intake for soot build up and air filter.

You can scan an 06 with a Tech2. IDSS is preferred, and the newer Autel will do N trucks, just giving you options as I dont know what you have for tooling. Id look towards the airflow restriction (egr throttle, air filter etc), airflow miscalculation (maf or cac leak) or leaking injector routes. Leaking injector should be apparent through cyl corrections. Sometimes if its smoking at idle, you…

You need to give us more information on this one. What type of tool are you using, service information, and testing procedures that you have done. On these trucks a couple of quick checks is, one make sure the exhaust brake is not stuck closed and make sure the turbo is working properly. What about service history fuel filters good and clean? Always and I can't emphasize always get maintenance…
