BMW Dealer Scan tool
Hello,
I was seeing if anyone knew where to get the BMW ICOM next from a reputable source? I tried getting it directly from BMW but they said due the the worldwide chip shortage they are unable to sell one at this time. They have a backlog since last year. With no date in the near future either. I saw a couple online but they look like knock china ones. Want to get one that actually will work and last! Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

My experience is that the china ones work for about 9 months to a year, so If you cant get a real one you can buy some time..
LMV will get you going. Don’t forget the power sou for programming. He has them too.
SAMER HERE, I PURCHASED FROM API, ORDER ONE PAY IT SHOWS UP WITHIN A MONTH. ALSO, ONE GUY HAD A NEW ONE ON EBAY , ORIGINAL. LITTLE BIT MORE THAN API. HERE WE GO, THIS ONE New Original 100% Genuine ICOM Next A | eBay
You can add the IMS ICOM to an Autoland Scientech tool i Scan 3 for only $400. We have been supporting the use of the i Scan IMS ICOM for many years now, it works great, plus in the ISTA VCI manager it shows as being an actual ICOM. LMK if I can help with that.
Hey Paul, may I ask how your experience is with the iScan3? I have been looking into purchasing one for our shop and would like some input. My email : ed@nine-eleven.com if you'd like to email me.
This may help. Seth Thorson is an expert in BMW tools with years of experience. eurotechmn.com
I'm setting up the BMW software on my Autohex next week Yes the dealer software has been hacked/knocked off - look at all the amateurs doing it with their own cars and ebay sales. Almost think BMW encourage it towards the hobby market. Anyway it's the software which is important. The interface not so much. And yes genuine best I'm not encouraging cheap chinese clones. Obviously anything sold…
We replaced our lost icom with a chinese one and it has worked for 6months or so now. It can buy you some time. A spare one wouldnt hurt.
Once you get an Icom Next….. If you work on enough BMW's, just purchase the online subscription. You can buy 1 year for $2500, $250 a month or $30 a day, which includes Diag, programming, wiring and work instructions. If you don't buy from BMW, you are buying a pirated software. You will benefit from the online system as lots of newer cars are needing FSC certificates for programming certain…
An advantage of Autohex is can do programming up to F series and with 2nd hand ecus. Tho my main reason is key programming.
I agree with you Marvin on the bootleg units.. However the units provided by Seth are turnkey full factory systems with legitimate factory subscriptions. He also has available an outstanding BMW vehicle repair support package. For sure he is a class act. Stay safe, Boyd
Hello Uncle Boyd….. My comment was not aimed at anyone. I'm just stating how cheap and easy it is to have all you need for BMW, directly from their online servers. Don't know who Seth is and what he offers. From bmwtechinfo.com you can get everything that you need and it is super easy to set up. Stay safe and warm.
Marvin, thanks for the reply. Yes, I plan to use a BMW subscription.
I just posted on here looking for an ICOM Next A as well. I had one on order with API for months, and no luck. FYI, the BMW TIS site says you can also run their diagnostic software by simply using a generic SAE J2534 pass-through device. API told me that as well. Has anyone on here tried that?
I have run ista with a cardaq 2 without any problem for bi-directional communications and code scanning. I was to afraid to try any programming though. What years/models are you going to be working with?
Larry, thanks for your reply. I think I've met you. My wife and her daughter used to have their former Volvo's serviced at your shop (Donna & Jessica Rumwell). I'm going to be scanning 2015 Model Year BMWs and Minis, including a wide range of models. This project is associated with litigation, and I prefer to use the BMW OEM tool if I can get access to one, but since BMW also endorses the…
If you want to test it out, you can come by at some point. I have both cardaq2 and cardaq3, though the 3 has been a little finicky for me.
Larry, Thanks for the offer. That's very kind. My scanning probably won't happen until April or May, and I may have located an ICOM I can borrow or rent. I'll phone you if it looks like I may have to go the SAE J2534 route. Thanks again for the assistance!
