Links opening in new tab

Steven Mechanic Spokane, Washington Posted   Latest

I don't know if other members like or dislike the links opening in a new tab, but for me the tabs just really add up fast and then I have to close all of them. Maybe this could be a survey to get feedback on this specific thing. My vote is for links opening in the current tab, and if we need to open them in a new tab we could use the right click menu. Anyone else want to add their two cents?

Hi Steven, Are you using the browser back button after reading a thread? [edit] I'm using Safari and the above question mistakenly assumed the back button behavior I experience in Safari was universal. This is what I received from one of my devs: "The links open in a new tab because otherwise hitting the back button will lead you back to the stream in different places depending on browser

No, the links open a new tab, so there is no where to go back to in that new tab. Looking forward to the SPA. 👍

I prefer opening links in a new tab. More often than not I am referring back and forth between them.

Hello Jaime, Thanks for responding. I'm not saying my way is the right way. It's all a matter of preference. This is my concern though: If you click enough links on this site, you end up with quite a few tabs. What do you do as the tabs get to be more and more? Eventually you have to close some down. Managing all the extra tabs becomes a chore. Other sites don't do this. Thanks again.

I wouldn’t have it any other way personally. I believe it is a browser settings, to open a new page or new tab when you click a link.

Hello Frank, New tabs for you too, eh? ☺️Do you find it annoying to manage all the extra tabs, or do you just close them as needed and this is a non-issue for you? Like when you get to 5 or 10 or more tabs for the same website? Thanks.

Also, yes I believe there is a browser setting for this, but every other website I visit doesn't have this behavior, so I'm not sure I want to change the setting for one website, just to have all the other ones no longer behave the way I want them to. Oh well, I can deal with it. Have a good one, and thanks again.

I personally like it. Only because I could quickly go back to what I was looking at without it loading. I’ll be going through everyone’s profile to see what they’ve posted, Click on 1 case study read it in another tab then go back to profile tab and continue clicking through case studies. I’m on my phone a lot so what really gets to me is reading something and following along with pictures or

I like it the way it is, that way I can close the tab and be right back where I left off. I only open one discussion at a time as I dont see the need to try to follow multiple discussions at once.

I personally like them opening in a new tab, that way I can have have all the images for a given reply open at the same time. Then I can quickly refer back and forth between them as needed while reading the post while not loosing my place in the middle of a long post. Once I'm done reading the post, then I close out those tabs. I think the proposed "Single Page Application" will be a good
