ASE testing revisited

Michael Owner/Technician New Jersey Posted   Latest

A few years back, …, when ASE began using Pro-Metric, I had 3 bad experiences with the staff at the testing center I used. Basically, I felt like I was being treated like a criminal. During one visit, the woman who was checking me in was very nasty to me at one point even calling me an idiot because I misunderstood her instructions. When I complained about being called an idiot, the other woman there told me "if you don't want to do this you can leave". When my certs expired in … I decided to pass on going for this very reason. Because of certain business reasons, I decided to take them again this past Saturday at the testing center in this area. First off, the testing center has moved a couple miles closer. Second, it has different people. I would like to take this moment to compliment ASE. What a difference! The center staff was polite, professional and overall a 100% improvement over the previous staff. During testing, I had a issue with my workstation. The lady was super efficient in getting me setup at another workstation and I was able to complete testing quickly. Thanks to ASE and pro-metric for the improvements.

I am curious as to how often this happens. I worked with a guy that had the same issues you had. Pretty much treated him like a criminal is what his complaint was and dealing with people who hate their jobs. Good to hear there has been changes hopefully to all states. Chris

That mirrors my experience though I can take it one better. For the second year in a row, when I returned home late at night, their website was hosed. The second time was impressive. It wouldn't accept my reservation after making payment. I cancelled and it was acknowledged, sort of. I logged back in a few minutes later and it wasn't cancelled. I cancelled again. Now, it was cancelled. I sent

I have been to the testing center near me for all of my tests, so I've been 5 or 6 times. The staff was different on different visits, but was always courteous and professional. That said, I complied with their instructions, because I know it's all standard procedure for everyone using their service. They answered any questions I had and even congratulated me on my results on more than one

Absolutely. It was totally different and like I said, professional. Before it seemed like the staff didn't want to be there and like they thought they were doing you a favor by allowing you to test. Couple that with the insult from them and I gave up. With my new insurance, they are requiring at least 1 ASE certified professional in order to get the better rate so I had to go.

I've never had any issues with prometric. Yes they make you empty your pockets and give you the wand. Never bothered me, I wasn't trying to cheat and I have nothing to hide. We need to remember there are not just automotive techs there testing. There's people there taking all sorts of tests. They have to keep the dishonest people from being dishonest. It's crappy your location sucks but I don't

I understand what you're saying Martin and I agree. However, there is a difference between being a professional and being nasty in any business. My post was to thank ASE for making improvements in this testing center.

Michael, I absolutely agree with you, there is no call for rudeness and insults in any profession. Hopefully those that were involved have moved on somewhere and enjoy their job/life now. When I first read your post, it reminded me of many others on another forum where the folks felt violated or attacked because they had to turn out their pockets. I hope you didn't think that I was insinuating
