Euro Strut Spring Compressor

Bill Owner/Technician Jackson, Michigan Posted   Latest

We currently have a wall mounted OTC Strut Tamer. We have made do with this unit for years it works great on the Asian vehicles we service. Not so good with alot Mercedes and BMW products.... We find the coil spring wants to bow, bend, and twist causing unsafe conditions at times we have to add additional coil supports just to make it possible. Even then it's a nervous operation....

Looking for recommendations for a efficient and safe strut spring compressor for BMW and MB.

Brannick spring compressor. It has three supports, which accomplishes what you're trying to do there. We've had one for about 10 years now, and I can't recall a strut or spring it couldn't do.

I bought this one three years ago and its all we use. I've only had one spring I couldn't change with it (Nissan Pathfinder because it only had three coils) but for all European makes it seems to work very well. Plus no lower control arm removal on VW rears, just compress the spring and pull it out. Only problem I've had with this is one of the snap rings fell off causing a roll pin to come…

Our older Brannick PST-585-A reached it's limit several years ago. We purchased the Strut Tamer II Extreme and so far have not had any issues. We have not done many European vehicles yet so I would be curious if anyone confirms whether or not this tool will work well for them. It appears that you are using the original Strut Tamer. The newer unit has added a gear reduction box (#6587) to the…

Our Branick 7600 has handled the tiny springs on European vehicles, coil over shocks etc. It handles the big springs on the later model pickup trucks like F150's and Silverados

Bill- I absolutely hated using that spring compressor,it was always a pain in the butt. As others have said, the Brannick is the go to unit is most shops for a good reason. I also like Matthew Potters solution. Looks decent.

I appreciate the input you guys have given. Is anybody using the Sir Tools compressor? sirtools.com/flier1.html The one from QSP that Patrick L. gave a link is interesting. I sent a email to ask them the dimensions of the unit. They also make it in a manual/ not air assist

We have ordered the Branick 7600 - I'll report back after some use on the coils / vehicles that we currently have issues with using the OTC unit.
