Chrysler PCM part number compatability and flashing
The current situation:
Diagnostic led to the replacement the PCM in this 2008 dodge avenger (vin K). New PCM from dealer is on backorder, so I opted for a used computer. We have Witech for programming and the micropod is up to date.
After replacing and programming the PCM the vehicle now sets U1110 - lost vehicle speed message and U1120 - lost wheel distance message. Also there is no speedo
The reason for this is because the victim vehicle is not equipped with ABS.
The PCM part numbers are the same for ABS and non ABS vehicles.
The donor PCM is expecting to recieve wheel speed CANbus messages from an ABS module, which is not equipped.
My programming steps were as follows:
- Under WCM → pcm replaced (v.i.n rewrite successful)
2. Under guided diagnostics → restore. vehicle configuration (successful)
3. Flash program PCM with latest update.
4. Under TIPM/CGM → reconfigured tire size.
My question:
Is there anything else I can change or reconfigure with the Witech to solve this problem, or does this have to be done from a blank PCM and the customer is screwed?
(I have ran into the exact same problem on a 2008 chrysler 300 in the past)

The PCM needs to be erased and reprogrammed with the non-ABS programming. The hardware is the same, but the programming is different as you have found out. I don't think Witech will let you accomplish it. I can do it but I use a different tool. Perhaps someone here knows how to get Witech to do it if it is possible.
Mike is right, I ran into that last month on a Chrysler. I had to clone the flash from the original ecu to the used replacement one. I know of no way to do it with Witech
There is a technique whereby you can hot swap the PCM before you push the button to program it. You let the vehicle identify with the old one assuming it can program and then right before you select your token, with the key on, you swap the PCM and continue with the process. Slightly dangerous but it does work. There's multiple references here on diagnostic network if you want to research it…
I have done something similar with Ford and IDS. I will give that a shot in the morning.
The other technique that I have personally used (with j-box flasher and mopar's j2534 software, not with witech) involves to load the proper software into the “LOW” folder, then open the files contained in that folder, right click the .BIN file and click on “EDIT”, highlight and erase one of the >OLD< part numbers and replace with the actual software part number in the donor computer…

Yes sir, right click and on new window look for “edit” I dont know if this is possible on witech application, Anybody?
This is why it says edit. I had it open on my phone then opened on my computer and could not figure out which one was correct because when I refreshed them they both were different. So I put edit in both and posted. It was not meant as a one word suggestion for solving the problem. I had wanted to post flash files to help but didn't know of that was ok per site rules.

Super easy. Download the correct calibration from TechAuthority. Open the “.flpart” file with a text editor and write the current incorrect calibration in one of the spots where a part number is entered. Save the file. Now, start the reflash process again. It will allow you to over-write the incorrect calibration.
