2016 Kia Sorento/ BCM replacement
Is the BCM in Kia/ Hyundai cars and SUV's a programmable module? If so, is it possible to program it with j2534 tools? I looked at the Hyundai site and it looks like they only allow the aftermarket programming of powertrain modules. Is that correct?
J2534 is on powertrain. It may be a scan tool function/setup or variant coding. If soo you can do that with a scan tool. Does SI state anything on programming?
i checked Alldata and Mitchell, and didn't see anything regarding programming after replacement. i did see some posting on some Kia/Hyundai user groups that said the bcm's were programmed at the dealer. I looked at special functions for the BCM with our Autel Ultra and didnt see any setup procedures
I had one a few years older than that, 2013, iirc, it needed a new BCM because it kept thinking a door was open, and setting off the alarm. There was no programming for that BCM, per se, but it had keyless fobs, so I needed a PIN to teach/learn them, or the car wouldn't start.
This Kia has conventional keys, but remote door looks. I noticed the bcm has an antenna attached so it must handle the remotes.
Yeah, I spent several hours bouncing around All-Data trying to figure out which module does what and Kia keeps changing what they call stuff in different sections. Finally I just looked at the OE wiring diagrams to figure out what modules exist and what hooks up to them.
Geoff Did you use a new BCM or a used one with the same part number?
Thanks I will look at the Autel again for the user config. page
Danny Does the OG BCM still communicate? If so before removal look at the customer preferences listed and how the BCM is configured, install the new BCM and configure it the same as the OG ( can be done with an Autel or Launch). Programming should not be required as the BCM will come from Kia with software already loaded. You will have to do CODE Transmitter Saving to do the remote. (Autel or…
Thanks Joe That helps alot! Yes the bcm communicates yet. It just won't operate the shift interlock solenoid.
If the dealers can't get me a new BCM quickly, do you think a used module with the same part numbers will work?
Hey Danny Sorry… I can’t say if Used is an option or not. I do very little with salvage or used modules.
Well after 3 attempts to get the local salvage yard to deliver a used BCM. I got it installed and user options config'd and key fobs learned. No problem doing it. First they delivered a fuse box. Second they delivered a PCM. But after sending a picture of the module, and a picture of were its located they were successfull!
