2014 Honda Accord Hybrid EX-L 2.0L (LFA1) (MM5E)
No Crank / No Start

Hi, customer complaint is vehicle not starting. Vehicle was not used for 4 weeks. The 12 volt battery is fully charged. No codes stored is any system. IMA data list displayed HV battery state of charge is 0%. When vehicle is put into maintenance mode the engine wouldn't start. Vehicle would not go into Ready To Drive mode. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I believe these require a special charger to recharge the hybrid batteries

These newer Accord hybrids are equipped with Lithium Ion high voltage batteries which are less failure-prone than the Nickel Metal Hydride packs in older Honda hybrids. I would double check the 12 volt battery and its connections. You could also try a hard reset (touch the 12v battery cables together). HV SOC is a calculation the computer makes and it may be confused. When looking at the HV…

Do you have a voltage pid for the HV battery? I have no experience with the full blown Honda hybrids though quite a lot with the IMA design but this one is much more advanced than the old IMA. SOC is a calculated value and, at least on Toyota, if you disconnect the 12v battery and reconnect, it will default to 50% if the battery voltage is not too low. Is this a plug in hybrid? If the HV battery…

It's not a plug in hybrid. The scan tool indicates 37 volts per cell.

I'm no hybrid expert, haven't even worked on one yet, but the failure to start in maintenance mode troubles me. There is a potential recall for this vehicle for a software update. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year … Honda Accord Hybrid vehicles manufactured August 29, 2013, to May 30, 2015. Electrical interference may cause the hybrid system to switch into…

I believe this vehicle has a normal 12 started motor , which is almost never used 🤔 if it is the case you could clear all dtc , go key on and manually energize it. If vehicle start the motor /generator will start charging it .

Talking with one of our Honda guys here at the shop. He ask if you've load tested the 12 volt battery or tried a jump start. He says the HV batteries should be in the 140 volt range. There's a process once it starts to charge the HV batteries, it may be in the owner's manual and it is on the Honda site (you can do a one day subscription for $30 if the service is available in the Bahamas) I'm…

Your battery voltage is pretty low at 205 volts. That battery is a 260 volt nominal voltage. This from Honda Service Info: The high voltage battery pack uses a Li-ion (lithium ion) battery. A Li-ion battery is lightweight, compact in size and has a long lifespan. The battery pack is composed of six modules (12 cells per module for a total of 72 cells) connected in series with a total voltage of…

I think if he could get the ICE to startup it would recharge the the HV battery. It has 205 volts, very low not dead still has 78% of a charge. I haven't worked on this year Honda Accord yet, so not sure how to make that happen or if it is possible at all.

My experience on the Toyota is as follows: Nominal voltage is 7.2 volts per block times 28 blocks which gives us 201.6 volts. But, very few of these batteries are found at 201.6. A battery removed from a vehicle, even one that sits for months at a time, will most often have 210 volts or more. In my experience, once the total voltage drops below 180 volts, the vehicle will no longer crank. Above…

I have heard on some systems that it is possible to charge the HV battery thru to the 12 volt system. Not sure about this one. You have to look into it.

I don't know if this will work. Try pressing the EV button for 2 seconds. This would switch it back to HV mode if it was in EV mode.
