2021 Silverado radio turns on with key out
Hello everyone, I'm looking for some help, I have a 2021 Silverado regular cab ,on which the radio turns back on after 2 minutes of exiting the vehicle(key out of ignition) with a message that says , rear controls unlocked upon vehicle re-entry, data pid shows door ajar switches active and inactive accordingly, I made the rookie mistake of deleting DTCs, swapped the radio with one from another vehicle but I was unable to program it. I have access to GM SI , but I'm having a hard time understanding the description of the radio power operation, I'm sorry if not explaining my self properly, Thanks in advanced for taking the time to help me out.
Hello Jose, Have you had the problem happen for you or just addressing a customer complaint? If it has also happened to you, and you confirmed the door switches are in fact working, take a careful look for add on devices and keep in mind they might be very well hidden. I have seen all to often where tracking devices would wake up several modules at random times and not let them go back to…
Hi Darren , this is … fleet pickup , as far I can tell there is no added devices , I noticed that the LIN stays active when the radio is on , when I remove the fuse for the radio the LIN goes to sleep, one question though, who is telling that radio to turn back on? thanks.
Jose, If that is a U-Haul fleet vehicle you can bet there is a tracking device (U-Haul has been under fire about purported vehicle thefts lately) The most likely place I have seen them is behind the radio. I just removed one this spring from a former fleet vehicle that a customer purchased a couple of years ago that decided to start doing the same thing. The device was about the size of a…
Jose If that is a U-Haul fleet vehicle you can bet there is a tracking device Several years ago a customer brought in a “retired” U-haul that kept draining the battery (he bought it a few years before then). After some diagnostics I found the “tracking device” with its own, small AGM (or gel) battery under the dash. The small AGM (or gel) battery was zip tied to a harness. When I checked that…
I agree with Darren - make sure there is not an aftermarket tracker somewhere. I have seen them under the dash, under the bed and in the headliner…. it could be anywhere-
I have found them under the seat and on late model GM trucks, above the spare tire carrier and tied into the rear harness master bulkhead (tail/brake/turn/BU lights, trailer towing etc. junction box typically aft of the spare tire cross member) I have even found them attached to the trailer towing harness and well hidden
Jose, This is a GLOBAL “A” vehicle and will not allow a radio swap from another vehicle. They are programmed for life to that VIN and only a new or properly remanufactured radio can be used!. what the others are saying may help you diagnose what is causing the “wake-up”. Put the original radio back, hopefully no damage has happened to the other modules when you incorrectly swapped the radio…
As Craig stated, the radio is from a Global A vehicle, and as such the radio is not swappable. Google, “Do Not Swap Modules”, and the link to GM will show up. Read this to understand how Global A architecture operates. Hopefully other modules have not lost their ‘indentifiers’ by the process of trying to install a ‘used’ radio, when it cannot be swapped with salvage. The radio is turned on by…
Hello everyone, I was able to repair this pickup truck by replacing the radio, after poking around for what is seemed an eternity, I was able to trace the wake up message from the serial data gateway module ( circuit 1102 GY/GN on wiring diagram) to the radio, activity on this line would ceased after 1 min and a half, for some reason the radio was deciding to turn back on. I really appreciate…
Jose, Actually I am not surprised it was the radio as I have over the years had quite a few that would continue to draw power after key off. Last one was a 1995 Corsica last year that would drain the battery after a few days. As for turning the radio on in normal circumstances I'll go with a generic answer. In modern vehicles security features and greetings (entry lighting/chimes/warnings etc)…
