164041

Hello,

We have a Mini that the customer, or someone else has installed cam sensors and vanos actuators trying to fix a 130F11 code. We updated the car with Autel tool and reset the vanos. We then started getting a 164041 code. We installed and new exhaust cam gear and short actuator bolt since the retainer to the oil actuator bolt was missing. We're still getting the 164041 after updates and resets. We have a good square waves on both cam sensors. We have swapped actuators, sensors and even disassembled it again to check cam alignments with the fixtures. All good. We removed the cam and did not see anything significant. On a bright note we're getting very efficient at teardown and reassembly! Hoping someone has been here before. Thanks in advance.

Did you check to see if the camshaft reluctor ring has become loose, I have seen it once before where it has moved just slightly enough to set a camshaft fault. Additionally I recently had once with the same code and found a overnight battery reset did the trick. Best of luck

The reluctor looked proper, but I'll give it another closer look. Will try the reset as well. Thanks.

I had the same exact problem. Turned out be the exhaust cam reluctor wheel spun on the camshaft since it’s pressed in and has no pin to hold it in the correct position. The pic with the line on the lobe is how it should be and other pic is how mine was. You can see how smallest tooth moved to the right on mine and is almost in line with the lobe but on a good cam the tooth is to the left of the…
