2012 BMW 528i 2.0L (N20B20A) 8-spd (GA8HP45Z)

Hello gang, need help here, got called to program a used transmission installed on the above vehicle, I scan for codes and find several codes on transmission, mostly related to coding issues. I proceed to code and program with autel mk908p, first time doing so on this particular vehicle with this particular transmission. after all programming and coding done I got no more codes not only on transmission but on any other modules. but gear shifter will not go out of park, I tried doing any pertaining adaptations or relearn available under transmission or gear shifter but no luck. I guess this particular mechatronics cannot be exchanged? anybody has had any luck doing a virginize or cloning?

They have to install the mechatronics unit from the original transmission. I've been thru this, tried multiple tools, including ones that claim to “inject” the VIN.

You need to clear/reset ISN in TCU and then perform programming/coding again.

I'm curious what you use to clear the ISN?

I didn't clear ISN. what do you suggest to use to clear ISN?. I don't think MK908p can do it, maybe IM608? can you point to a youtube video of the process?

AutoHex from Microtronik, BMW explorer, EsysX, Yanhua ACDP…Not sure if the IM608 can do it. I highly suggest to keep the mechatronics that came with the used transmission. You never know what problems the other trans/Mechatronics had.

Autel won't do it. It's only specific specialty tools that have the capability. The ones the other guys are using will do it. Personally in this situation, unless you do a lot of BMW, I would obtain the mechatronics from the original transmission you removed and swap it into the used one. Then clear codes and adaptations and it will shift (assuming the original fault wasn't in the mechatronics).

You don’t need to program or coding nothing just install old mechatronics on the new one and then deleted the adaptation.

I use Microtronik Hexprog to reset the ISN in the used EGS, by OBD or bench.

Eric , What is your opinion on the Hexprog ? Worth your investment ? How is the user interface ? I've looked into the Autohex II as well but I'm still on the fence.

Hi William, I really like it for BMW ISN related part exchanges although it is not 100% user friendly, sometimes you have to search for on bench connections. Most can be done by OBD. Some DMEs needs to be cloned because of FSC codes, you have to search in their forum for the info. For programming/ coding it is right on spot, It has the same programming file part number as the latest ISTA. I have…
