Flashing Red Etc Light
MIL On
No Power

Hello all,

Had this vehicle towed in and customer states red etc light was flashing and mil was on. Said they experienced no power and lack of acceleration. Upon checking the vehicle there was only mil on with codes P0105 and P0171. Test drove the vehicle with no problems and neither code returned as of yet anyway. Was surprised not to see an etc code at all. Customer did confirm it was red etc light that was flashing. They said it did happen once before and had the throttle body replaced. It’s been two days without the symptoms occurring. Any insights or thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Check for vacuum leaks and also check the intake gaskets. The etc will shut down if the TPS and map sensor are too far apart

What was the Freeze Frame Data? You wrote it down before clearing DTC...right? Monitor fuel trims and engine vacuum at various RPM and loads to attempt to reproduce the DTC. Check for a sticking-open Purge Valve.

Is the map sensor reading correctly engine on and off? Short term/long term trim values good? Pcv good? Or could it me sticking and contaminating map with oil?

in deed the MAP will cause the ETC to light up and will feel like a misfire.its limp mode sorta.the ones i' ve dealt with had bad MAPs would act up intermittently.so did you end up fixing it?

Sorry for the late update but after a few more days of trying to get this problem to happen it finally did. Since I was leaning towards a signal issue with map Sensor I scoped the map as well as scan tool ready for snapshot each time I drove the vehicle. Luckily the vehicle acted up for me and when it did I found a bad signal from map sensor. Upon further investigation I found poor terminal…
