5-Gas Explained

Steve Instructor California Posted   Latest

My very good friend Steven Ethridge and I made a video today on 5-gas theory.

We worked on this for while and I believe Steven did an excellent job and wanted to share with everyone ( I do have his permission to share this)

Your comments are most appreciated.

Steve and Steven Thanks for sharing that. I appreciate the reference to LTFT “and a discussion for another day”. Looking forward to that video I have a friend who retired (he was also the Tech rep for SnapOn). I’d like to link this 5-gas video so he can watch. Is it on YouTube? If so or if not how do link the video?

Hello Mark, The link is on you tube, … 5 gas complete . We do have a Fuel Trim video in the works, Its amazing to me, that you bring it up, Steve and I were just talking about it. Great minds? Your The reference I believe you are speaking of in the video was to Final Fuel Trim, a strategy employed to ensure Catalyst longevity and function. Thank you for taking the time to view and…

Steven Everyday I realize just how little I know in the universe. People with your wisdom/experience/knowledge have probably forgotten more than I’ll know on the subject of 5-gas. Thanks for spending the time to share some of what you know

Thank you for the video and the work that was done to make it happen. Not many people are able to show and explain how gases are created/changed in a way that people can understand. It's easy to explain it to someone who already understands it but when showing this to someone who has no idea what goes on in the exhaust you can see their eyes open up when that light turns on and they understand…

Great Explanation, I have been using and Teaching exhaust gas analysis for a lot of years, Can't believe how many times I have heard “We don't do emissions in this state” ????? How about if you just wanted to know what just happened in the combustion chamber as a Jump Start to your diagnostics. AGAIN, Great work….. Thumbs UP

Thank you very much. Thats an exceptional video. One question I do have is in regards to the nitrogen through the cat. It is mentioned that it passes through the reduction catalyst. Does it get held by the oxidation catalyst afterward or does pure nitrogen exit the tailpipe as well?

Hello Josh, In my understanding, is the Oxidation Catalyst is a collector of oxygen in the lean season and a supplier of oxygen in the rich season. I think of it as if there are 4 Magnets, Nitrogen has a very weak + positive charge, the Cat is a stronger but weak + Positive Charge, Hydrogen and Carbon have a stronger + Positive charge, Oxygen has a Negative - charge. Knowing opposite's attract…
