2021 Cadillac ADAS calibration/modification for aftermarket front bumper
A customer today enquired about adding a custom winch grill to the front of this escalade while still maintaining adas features. I'm not too familiar with the new GM adas stuff and am wondering where to start. In the service info there doesn't appear to be an overview of all the features installed by VIN so where do I start? With RPO codes?
Secondly, is it even possible to calibrate adas systems after moving them forward/back or up/down?
Thanks all!
Attached is a module list from GDS2
I don’t know of a single OE that supports moving of any ADAS related sensor. That’s an invitation to disaster. I also would not trust a single aftermarket manufacturer of winches or bumpers to know the answer either. They are going to tell you it works to make the sale. I have had to tell people that purchased $4,000 aftermarket bumpers (and they were told that ADAS would be unaffected) that…
Liability isn't worth it. Moving things like Laser or Radar would introduce all kinds of issues due to the software not knowing that its been moved. Imagine the sensors picking up random objects on the road or incorrectly measure distance and causing the vehicle to apply brakes randomly. We have enough issues with that on stock configurations lol.
My advice is making it go away, send them to the dealer. Modification and additions on a new vehicle are something you are likely not equipped for. They are hoping to save money and get it done cheaper. ADAS=Automated Driver Assist System. This is tied into every system of a vehicle and will shut systems down if not operating correctly.
If the AM crap doesn't interfere with the sensors and/or camera's ‘vision’ it should be no issue. If it does interfere, the system will be offline and the warning message should be displayed, indicating that such is the case. Codes will be stored. Front sensors for parking and the like will probably have issues. I'd not get involved if there is any question. But, OTOH, as I stated, if it does…
