Gaining Security Access Failure
After replacing and programming a Ford supplied pcm I went into Pat's to perform a parameter reset. I am using fjds and Drewtech hardware. After the 10 minute bar completes and I press the check mark in the lower right screen, I get the message failure to gain security access. This is the intelligent key system. I did check for any aftermarket accessories none found.
Hello Steve, I was going thru the same situation a couple of months ago and finally after purchasing two subscriptions from Ford, I realized that what was holding me back and not allowing the system to finalize the process was one step where it was going thru all features and systems of the vehicle and the only one that was not ok was the TPM. Because the vehicle was equipped with the winter…
Hi florin. So your security access was blocked by a problem with the tpms Module?
Actually I think I might have remembered wrong, I managed to gain security access but was not able to finish the process and the interior lights were flashing continuously when turning ignition on or while driving and that was the TPMS interference. I apologize if I misguided you. It was during programming but at the end of the process.
I agree with you I had one that a tpms sensor was dead and the interior lights would flash. I can't remember the vehicle for the life of me now other than it was a ford. But once I figured out that the tpms sensors need to all work. I replaced the bad one I was to able to complete the flash and do all the relearns.
Steve, Did you Program the new PCM using FJDS and J2534 and PATS is failing afterwards? is PATS in the PCM or IPC on that vehicle?
Hi Bob. The system is an intelligent key system. This uses an RF hub and the BCM. The BCM is the master. It exchanges go no go to the PCM.
Do you have access to IDS with a VCM2? If so, that would be the first step to troubleshoot. If it works with IDS there’s a bug in FJDS and needs to be reported to Ford. If not, the vehicle is failing some security hand off and we’ll need to dig deeper.
This vehicle with IA (intelligent access) keys use the RFA (remote function actuator) to receive key signal. This information is communicated to the BCM and the BCM informs the PCM it is ok to start. There may be two parameter resets available dependent on model for this type of key. BCM-RFA and BCM-PCM parameter reset. Check PCM, BCM and RFA for communication and stored DTC's. If the parameter…
Hi Steve: Take a look at the Troubleshooting Notes after verifying that you are performing the procedure correctly. fordservicecontent.com/ford_content/c….pdf EDIT: I forgot to mention that an assumption has been made that you are using the current version of the software. If not, remove it and install the current version. HTH, Guido
Ah, someone from Central Alberta. The "ber" part. My company is about 25 miles outside of Boston, Todd. I'm in PA, down by The Mason-Dixon Line. HTH, Guido
Hi Guido, I was merely commenting on a glitch on the site that showed all who replied to this thread to be from Heath, where ever. Boston's pretty far south now eh?
Post a screen shot of the message. Also, what are you using for a battery maintainer, and what is the voltage at?
There are some aftermarket tools you could try for the 10 minute learn. Autel, Launch, XTool, Autoland Scientech Iscan II. Some will only learn keys and some will allow parameter reset. It would help to know why the PCM was replaced? There could be an internal network problem interfering with the process. It may be that the key has to be in the learn pocket during the process.
I have not had to place the key in the backup slot for parameter resets, the possibility of network issues is likely. Steve have you performed a Full vehicle scan?? Are there any DTC's?
With the access being in the BCM I assume you are getting a screen requesting a user name and password. If so you will need LSID to complete this process, Likely you are bypassing the screen. It should pop up before the 1 minute mark. HTH
Your right Sam, 13 escape does show as an LSID access pats system, Steve, is it going through a ten minute delay or prompting for security information?
Hi everyone. Sorry about the delay in posting about this problem. I appreciate everyone's involvement in helping fellow members of this group. The solution to this problem turned out to be a simple one. As stated before,i was using a Drewtech product. I was using the Ford mongoose that I use when program Fords. After following some of the suggestions from some of the members responses without…
Steve, Thanks for the follow up, was this timed access or LSID access?
This shows as an anomaly in the service information. When I ran the Vin it shows a build date of 25-AUGUST-2012 , but other documentation shows that a 2013 Escape should be LSID Access to pats. The waters here seem to be muddy. I wonder if the late build 2013's are LSID.
