How to pull Aisin TCU codes in Mini Cooper P0700
This vehicle came in a few months back. Customer thought it had a misfire, we troubleshot it and it had a shifting issue. We did a fluid and filter on it and took care of the problem.
Customer came in this week and said it was great he has driven it all over and on long trips. Suddenly he had the EP code and limp mode. We scanned it and it had can bus errors in multiple modules. We checked all can bus module connectors that are exposed to the environment, no corrosion. Waveform on can lo and can hi looks good. Tiny bit of ringing on the can low but I don't think it would cause any issues. Cleared codes and the only relevant code that comes back is P0700.
ISTA pulls an ABL for this that explains to pull up codes directly from AISIN TCU and to fix and clear them twice and then clear the related DME P0700 in the DME. it does not tell you how to access these codes. They do not show up in the EGS module.
Does anyone know how to access AISIN TCU codes on this mini? This code is persistent even after clearing.
After the code is cleared and returns does the trans work okay? Is there any evidence of water damage in the footwell module or connectors. Aisin builds the transmission but the control is still BMW. Like you the request to access the Aisin ECU is confusing. Those transmissions do have problems with shifting that do not set specific codes. Many times there may not be a code. The most common…
Obie, Thanks so much! We just took it for a test drive and it runs great. Has the slightest bit of hesitation before a high rpm shift. The code in the DME P0700 is persistent but no other relevant codes. His fluid was super dirty when we did his fluid and filter last time, no signs of metal wear but VERY dirty. So we will do a drain and fill. This has an obscure geometry pickup so we couldn't…
Chris, Relatively high mile cars suffer. If it has shift issues, especially cold the thing most likely has wear issues. Somewhere in SI I found a description of the shifting strategy. It assumes the correct internal pressures to operate. There is a reason Mini dealers sold transmissions, never repairs. In car repairs can be the rabbit hole of doom! Programing most likely is a waste, but easy to…
