Crank / No Start

Greetings!

I got a call from a shop south of me that they had a 2015 Jeep Cherokee with a bad PCM. The Original the original PCM allows the car to start but run very poorly. They put in a donor PCM from LKQ and wrote the VIN to it, but it cranks and doesn't start. I tried programming a new key to it, but that did not do anything different. The key is an after-market Ilco key, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I was considering trying a new WIN module except for the fact that the vehicle starts with the old PCM.

I mostly work with Euro cars, so any insight you might have would be greatly appreciated!

Try to do a “pcm replaced“ procedure using a capable scan tool like maxisys. It will be found in the skim module special functions. You will need the 4 digit security code.

If the PCM works and car starts, what codes did the PCM through. Sometimes a module with codes can malfunction or cause time related problems. Clearing codes first after writing them down might Eliminate the possibility of fuel air or spark being the problem.

The PCM will need to be flashed for this vehicle. Check the BCM for a PCM replace function in Misc Functions. This will do the security handshakes. 2015 should have a RFHub not a WIN?

Dont forget you will need two keys to close out the programming of keys

Give the VIN # to a dealership parts guy and he will give a 4-pin number for the security.

Make sure that the engine was never swapped out also. I'm not sure how but there's a TSB on engines not starting after replacing the PCM if it's not the original engine. I believe the pin number should be stamped on the block somewhere and there's an RFID on the valve cover, but again, I'm not exactly sure how that works.

I saw this bulletin as well, and truly want to know how the heck a module can identify a replacement engine. It doesn't make sense in my head or anyone else I've asked.

By looking at the year, it seems that car is Fiat, CSW protocol, you morelikely have to do proxy alignment.
