2008 Mercedes Benz C280, Shop installed used Transmission
I received a call to come and "program" a used transmission that a shop installed. They said the car does not move afterward.
Asked if I can reprogram the transmission. I do believe this has a 722 type trans, and that just a possible coding with a compatible scan tool is all that is needed? I have been using BlueLink for my MB programming. Just would like to know before I get there, if there are steps I should take before I call BlueLink to remotely reprogram this this trans. Thank you. I can call client(shop) to get more information if needed. Thanks again.

The valve body electronics are linked to the car the transmission came out of. It would require a new valve body or have the current electronics sent out and virginized.
Looks like 2 problems. The 722.9 transmission module cannot be reprogrammed to another vehicle. You need to install module from old trans or install new module and program. The car should move in limp mode without programing. Did they refill the fluid correctly? Noel.
Noel, thanks for responding. I assume they filled to correct level, but really unsure. I’m just asking for help before I go out there and spend hour(s) on a program that may need additional parts( valve body electronics). I will call the shop and get more information . Thanks for help.
Terry, Call at BlueLink. Be prepared with vin, part numbers, etc. They will tell you exactly what best to do.
Robert; Thanks, I did and spoke with Joe( great and helpful guy)! It seems those conductor plates are VIN locked, and needs to be virginized . It can be done, but very risky and old one may even incorrect version VGS2 vs VGS3. Joe suggested and I agree is to purchase a new valve body and program is usually made easy.
As has been stated the module will need to be unlocked then coded and adapted to the vehicle. Not sure if BlueLink can unlock used modules, call them and ask.
I keep it simple. Yes we can but you can't shine a turd. It's not the right way to go.
Are you saying you will if asked?
You should be able to transfer the mechatronic from the old transmission. If you must use the one that comes with the used transmission you will need the virginize it before you can program it to the car.
Like other people said will need Conductor plate removed and sent out to be virginized I would Not use the plate out of old trans may of had a problem with it that’s why they replaced trans the car will move in limp mode if u unplug the trans connector
I virginize and program them in the car. But you’re not in VA. It can be done. Quite easy with the right tools
Allen; could you tell me what tools You are using and possibly how to unlock or virginize . I have an used car lot that sells a lot of higher end nameplates, and I’m starting to do a lot more MB models for them . Thanks for your input. I would appreciate any help and tooling I would need.
This module (EGS) needs to be virginized or it cannot be re-encoded to another vehicle these VIN lock. The dealer tool nor blue link can do this unless it is virginized. I own several tools that can do this procedure, both over $5K each. If you cannot find someone local who can do this, you can have them ship me both the original and the used Conductor plate and I can make it happen for a fee…
Allan is correct...I do them all the time. Send me the plate i'll unlock for you
Sorry, I am new here, but figured I would add my 2 cents... The conductor plate in the new/used trans needs to be virginized and then personalized to the car. Virginizing of any of these modules requires a direct connection... If this is a 2008 C class, it should only have a conductor plate, only the 4 wheel drive cars have an ISM, Intelligent shift module,on the side of the trans... You can…
Thanks, to all great techs who replied. At least I have some very welcoming advice. so far the other shop doing the the work, has not gotten back to me on this situation. I appreciate all your input, technical advice. Thanks a mill. T …
Well, as it happen the shop that wanted me to “ program“ the Mercedes-Benz trans , thought I was too high a price. They ended towing to dealer and paying a hefty price. I heard over $2000.00! To get it straightened out. They won’t give any details of the act repair.
That sounds about right.... New conductor plate and programming it into car... and they still have a used transmission... Love these shops...
Stupid is as stupid does...........Mrs. Gump
TCM and ism if awd need “unlocked” then they can be programmed to the car. I do them All the time in the car.
