You have recently purchased a new Windows 10 computer or tablet and cannot load any programs

If you recently purchased a new Windows 10 computer and you are experiencing problems loading any programs, this is most likely your issue:

Microsoft is switching its approach to Windows 10 S.

It is the new version of Windows that's designed to compete with Chrome OS.

Windows 10 in S Mode is a more limited, locked-down Windows operating system.

In S Mode, you can only install apps from the Store, and you can only browse the web with Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft is pitching security, speed, and stability here. In "S Mode", the computer will only install and run apps from the Microsoft Store.

Is the Computer in S Mode?

  1. Hit Windows Key + X then select System from the menu that appears.
  2. Scroll down to the "Windows specifications"
  3. If you see the words "in S mode" to the right the Edition entry, you're using an S Mode PC.

To get out of "S Mode", follow the instructions below

  1. Hit Windows Key + X then select System from the menu that appears.
  2. Click on Update and Security
  3. Click on Activation
  4. In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store.
  5. On the Switch out of S mode (or similar) page that appears in the Microsoft Store, select the Get button.
  6. Click Install
  7. Click "Yes, Let's Go"

Does this mean internet explorer is not available if I buy a computer loaded with 10 S? The reason I ask is when I use Identifix, some images do not load if I am using the Edge browser. However, if I use IE everything works. Someone told me that Edge is made for "mobile" web sites.

I use Chrome for Identifix, works well for all images and PDFs. Kind of weird that they don't load on Android tablet or phone though...
