Dodge Cummins RAM Truck Gear Position Codes
This truck has had a rough life. After an engine fire the shop replaced selected wire looms and the transmission. After the work was done and the truck running, it was found that the gear position and water in fuel circuit were throwing codes. After removing and inspecting all the wiring looms and not finding any shorts, the PCM was condemned. A used PCM was supplied. I came in and programmed the PCM. After the programming and the immobilizer reset, the truck started and ran. The transmission did not shift. I soon discovered that the wrecking yard sent a PCM that was suited for a manual transmission.
I wanted to see if I could read the information off the old PCM to flash to another donor. I soon found out that the particular PCM is very hard to read the calibrations from. While poking around in the PCM I found a chip that did not look right. It seems the smoke got let out of it.
The chip is obsolete at DigiKey and Mouser. It would be nice to be able to just exchange the chip and be done. It seems that the CM2200 controllers are selling high and hard to find.

Hi Glen, Nice find! And it is in stock at Mouser. That is great news. The shop will be happy I don't have to order from Taiwan.
That's going to be a lot of tiny little soldering. :-)
Eric, With hot air rework station it is not too bad. All the solder on pads is prepped. Then the hot air melts it all at once. I usually follow up with the soldering iron to make sure each leg is well connected.
Right on Michael. I have found that exploring outside of the automotive world has taught me a lot of lessons. Louis Rossmann owns an Apple product repair shop in NYC and has produced many YouTube videos on circuit board repair. You would be surprised how much of it transfers over to the automotive world. He is also battling R2R with Apple which amazed me.
