We will be removing the fuel tank from this vehicle today to address a pump issue.

My Question is does the tank need to be completely drained to remove the fuel lines from the bottom tank? (The ones under the car, above the diff with the quick connect fittings). If so have you had any luck draining or sucking at the fuel filter pipe or are you going thru the filler neck and siphoning?? Thanks!

The Fuel lines have a Flap/Check valve to prevent gas from flowing out once the quick disconnect is removed under the car above the differential. To remove the gas, you can try to go thru the gas fill, or we usually start to remove the tank, and on most Jaguars, you can pull the tank out on a small angle and pop the ring off from the top and stick a small 5/16 hose thru the opening in the top of…

I recently replaced a fuel pump on a similar Jaguar and had no problem with gas running out after disconnecting the lines. Best wishes on disconnecting them. I believe the manual states to drop the rear axle due to the tight area between the axle and the fuel tank on the model I was working on. I was able to do it without dropping the axle with much finagling. I got my release tool on the line…

I recall doing a fuel pump on one of these a few years back and remember having a lot of trouble with the quick connects. They are very difficult to remove. I found a set of white cheapo disconnect tools worked the best because of the limited access. Fuel did not run out when I finally got the connectors off.

A tip for Jags is to cut a short section of PVC pipe and slot it to fit around the fuel lines. This tool gives you better leverage for pressing in the disconnect tool. See the photo at the link below, courtesy of aholbro1 at the Jaguar Forums, who came up with the idea. You may need to adjust the length of the pipe depending on the car you're working…

That is a great idea. I'm going to steal it and pass it off as my own! Just kidding. :)

Disconnect driveshaft a differential remove parking brake cable using quick disconnect tool and a small crows foot on a long extension you can push the quick disconnects in and release fuel line. After fuel lines are released slide fuel tank back then you will be able to remove some fuel. Depending how much fuel and it could be quite heavy.

Although the fuel lines are not easy to access we found no need to remove or lower any other parts to disconnect them. We had soaked down the connections with penetrate oil the night before and we're able to disconnect with standard disconnect tools. (This was a very clean / no rust vehicle) NO fuel drains after disconnecting either thank God! Additionally I would recommend completely removing…

I should have also mentioned that the fuel tank has a check valve in the return line port, and the fuel pump has a check valve in its outlet, so as long as both check valves are working, very little fuel will escape when the fuel lines are disconnected. However, failure of one or both check valves is not unknown. Cheers, Don
