ATS Carbon Clean sytem Rant
Well, I grabbed the ATS Carbon clean December 2020 for the new shop that was opening January 2021. We attempted to use the machine and it kept throwing faults. Call support and went to some trouble shooting and they came to the conclusion that the machine was bad. They promptly sent me a complete replacement unit. A few weeks/ Month later we go to use the new machine, it starts the process and all good. Get mid way and then throws faults again. I contact support once again and they decide it is another defective unit, this time they send me a box to just return the electrical box to be repaired. We get a new one after 2-3 weeks. We get another vehicle in that we sold a cleaning, guess what, half way through the cleaning it throws out another fault. Same as before, for cleaning out the canisters and the solenoid valves. This thing is brand new, I call tech support once again, now I get the news that their builder/ provider switched parts on them and that is why all these issues are happening. Now they want me to send it back once again to try to repair it once again. I am worried at this point. The machine was not cheap, I have several cases of chemical and unable to use them, at this pace I will never get my money back from cleaning services. I always thought Bernie made quality equipment, his eScope and eScan are great tools but now I feel hugely let down. I do feel it is time to just request a refund as they cannot get the equipment working properly. Ok, rant over. Anyone else have had issues with the machine?
Hey Justin, Give me a call or shoot me an email tomorrow. I'll do my best to get this resolved. …
Ok, No problem. As long as it's being handled. If you ever need help or have questions you can also reach out to me as a point of contact for the 3C.
I had problems with mine too there fixing it now I hope I didnt buy expensive shit . Love Bernies other equipment and he is a trouble shooter god . This machine I am worried about it being boat anchor
Unfortunately the Covid era has created supply and parts quality issues that even the most reliable vendors have not been able to overcome. I have worked with ATS for years and can assure you their integrity can't be questioned. They will support you until a resolution is found. Frustrating now, I am sure but your patience will pay off in the end.
Boy ain't that the truth. Takes forever to get certain parts and then when you do finally get them, you have a 50/50 chance of them working correctly. Seems like quality control across the board is non existent right now.
I hate to say it but from what I have seen I simply cannot imagine any type of chemical cleaning system that will clean the deposits from the intake valves on a GDI engine. I just did a Kia head today and even the glass bead cabinet was having a hard time cleaning that junk off the valves. Usually I chuck the valves in the lathe and use an old screwdriver to scrape off the deposits. I imagine…
R and I intake. Walnut blast will clean them LIKE NEW! done many a car. BMW even makes a tool the goes in the spark plug hole and has a reverse angle that can clean the face of the valves and the dome!
Walnut blasting will clean 100%! Here are before and after results by walnut blasting. This job was just done today.
Your suppose too do the service every 30k not wait . I have done a couple services a it worked great . I also had HHO machine that worked good to specially on a trouble AUDI
Hey Vic, I'm sorry you had such trouble. I'll give you a call tomorrow and discuss this matter. I'm sure we can work together and find a resolution. The 3C is still a fantastic piece of equipment. We'll be in touch tomorrow. All the best Justin
What a pain when things don't go right! BUT….I bought our first eScope from Birney and Neal about 16 years ago-complete with the yellow tower that out weighs a VW- and have purchased a multitude of goodies from them over the years. Fantastic tools one and all. I haven't yet grabbed a carbon clean but I can guarantee that the only person more frustrated than you about your misadventures will be…
I've had great luck with the eScope. We had 9 of them at school. Good too: the pressure transducer for in-cylinder pressure testing, and no-longer-sold ignition tester. But my own personal eScan has never worked on Asian cars--only domestic. They seemed unable to suggest a solution.
Vic I have a ATS 3C machine that we have when ATS first came out with it. The machine and chemical have worked great. ATS makes great equipment but as stated by others some quality parts are difficult to secure. I have a friend that had an issue and sent the head of the machine in for repair after using it for a few years. One difference from what we perform on our 3C machine was that we clean…
I need to be careful here, but I would like to suggest the chemical will not clean the valves all shiny like the blasting technique does, and personally I don't think it has to, as long as it cleans the valve well enough so it doesn't hang open and have too much airflow restriction… hey, good to go. We use the BG set up and chemical, I have only seen the valves a time or two after the process…
I’ve done one service only on two 200k plus misfiring cx7‘s that had never been serviced before using ATS C3 system, you are correct that this maintenance system did not get it to bare metal, however it did get rid of the misfires and got the vehicles owners to go with usin the maintenance approach
Right on. Another thing I am a fairly firm believer in is that a misfiring GDI vehicle is more often from the fuel injectors than from carbon on the valves. We have sometimes done the injector part of the cleaning only and omitted the valve cleaning due to turbo or supercharged induction…. And it has cleared up misfiring condition on cold start up.
Agreed with the guys, there's got to be a solution for this problem, on my experience, they a good company, bought a lot tools from Bernie for more than ten years
Vic, I can understand frustration with equipment that doesn’t work, however I have seen problems with getting good parts for several things vehicle and not vehicle related lately, I have several pieces of equipment from ATS including the C3 setup…I have never had an issue that they didn’t bend over backwards to help me with, and never have they given up. The ATS crew WILL get you taken care of.
Hello Vic, I share your pain, I've had 1 self induced mishap with my C3 cleaner (using a funnel that had been used with engine oil), Bernie explained, the problem is the type of chemical he developed for the C3 machine requires a special pintle tip that will swell with any petro-chemical exposure. Bernie sent me new pintles free of charge and I was golden, for a while. Then I had a malfunction…
