Programming or Coding of ABS Module
I received a call from a customer of mine who replaced an ABS module in a 2010 Routan.
I was not sure if I can code it with my Maxisys Elite or IM508, or if I need to do it via J2534. Autels vehicle coverage does not even mention a Routan at all.
I hate buying a subscription just to find out that all I had to do is code it natively with my scan tool.
David, The core vehicle is a Chrysler T&C RT. VW hosts the information on their site but if memory serves me correctly they go out to Tech Authority to get it.
Build the vehicle as a town and country. Go into the ABS module and look for ECU initialization. Follow the directions on your scan tool.
I drove to my clients to hook up to it to see how Autovin would bring it in. I then searched for brake related options and found this.
You should be able to with the Autel. I believe you need the original module installed and new module present to swap when promted by the scan tool. Its been awhile since I've replaced one.
VW ODIS will not recognize this vehicle. See if you can manually ID it as a Grand Caravan or Town & Country with your Autel and do the same initialization procedure that you do with FCA (Stellantis) products. If the part number is not matching it may not work. Chrysler vehicles have always been fishy with used electronics. If you have the wiTech, you can use that as well.
David after reviewing the faults you posted, It looks to me as if this is a defective module or an incorrect one.
The shop I am doing it for has already condemned it. Will be coding brand new OEM module Monday morning.
Not actually coding, just initializing. FYI, make sure that they have the vehicle ready to be driven before you get there. If this has Electronic Stability Control, a driving pattern will need to be performed before clearing the “Rolls Bytes”. I have shown up at shops that told me they were ready and when I get there they are in the middle of a brake reline on the same vehicle! Some shops are…
Thanks for clarifying, I was hunting for the correct term and gave up and just said “coding”. :) Yes this shop is guilty as well for wanting to have the new module installed when I arrive, and I have to ask them for the old module before I get started. Thank you for the heads up on the drive pattern!! I love having such details when its my first experience with a certain type of vehicle.
