ADAS Minimum Tool Set
If a shop were to want to get into ADAS, what would the recommendation be for a collision shop handling Domestics (Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep, GM/Chev, Ford/Lincoln, Toyota/Lexus, Honda/Acura, Nissan/Infinite for ADAS Fixture, OE Software/Hardware as a minum? or Good, better, best.
You are starting off backwards, first you need a dedicated area with correct lighting, level floors, no windows, no lifts, correct paint, no reflections, or metal objects, and no clutter around it and approx 40x40 clear open uncluttered area. Most people fail before they begin trying to use existing shop space and lighting and tool boxes and clutter all around….you may get other opinions but…
Space should be your first consideration. Below said 40x40 and while that would be great I’d recommend at least 30x25. It needs to be inside and level enough to pass OE requirements as well. Blindspots on toyotas can take a very wide area, cameras on a honda can take a very deep area. Figure that out before you go to tools. when you get to tools I will say OEM tools and service info will always…
We are collision repair facility and have purchased the Autel ADAS system. As an Autel user for years I felt comfortable with this purchase based on the support we get from our distributor and the company. You can start with the basic package and add on as you go. I had the system for about a month and a half and have performed 5 or 6 radar unit and forward facing camera calibrations with it…
Was more looking for a recommendation on tooling for OE's over and above the space requirements. Ie what would you recommend of subscriptions for research, AllData, Identifix, RTS, etc, OE Subscriptions or can you get away with just getting 3rd party. As for OE tooling do you need OE Software if so would recommend to all OE's above?
No tool will help without the correct space and environment. I see too many people “calibrating” just to get a “pass” printout and the system be way off to the point of dangerous but setting that aside… OE subscriptions with J2534 plus Mitchell or Alldata and OEM targets and multi axis laser level, angle measure, and metric tape measure.
Patrick- I have no personal experience. but just read a very good article in the November issue of Motor that lays out what to expect motor.com/magazine-summa…
Most of my customers that are equipped to handle ADAS use the Autel ADAS setup and use … for OEM info.
OEM information does not match the AUTEL ADAS targets , When calibrating windshield lane departure cameras the autel printer targets are slightly smaller than the OEM does requiring them to place them closer to the camera to compensate for the difference, When calibrating the front radar sensors on Audi The OEM height measurements are meant for their specific wheel alignment rack to…
