Scan tool/ Purge valve activation
Greetings all. I have a question about the Snapon Verus and Launch X431 scan tools ability to manually activate the purge valve to check the system for operation? I have both tools and was trying to do that on an 08 Honda Civic but didn't find anything.
I saw online where Eric was using the Bosh scan tool to operate and check the system for leaks and was hoping that these other scan tools might do the same thing but not.
The Verus of course has the procedure to hook up and test with the scope the purge valve but my thought was that it had the ability to manualy operate the valve but it doesn't.
That ability isn't vehicle specific is it? Thank you for any information, Doug
It should if Honda made it available. Both tools will also perform a EVAP test
Thanks, I haven't tried it on other vehicles but I intend to.
All depends on the vehicle as to what bi directional control one should have. It then will depend on the scanner as to what and how it controls it. Some vehicles the purge is a slow constant on off cycle or an option to duty cycle it at 1% increments. Some require KOEO while some allow engine running. Every manufactuer might have their own description for bi directional control. Hopefully some…
My SO Solus ultra will control the vent and purge on a Honda Element. It really depends on what holes your shooting through on the snap on. It will excell in some areas, and fall absolutely flat in others. Which is typical of other brands as well
Thank you for the information!
“That ability isn't vehicle specific is it?” - YES. Of course it is. ECM do not speak English. Every single function that every single tool does on every single car with whichever engine/trans/body etc combo needs code written into the scan tool. That is why we find so many functions missing and not working. With some scan tool companies you can notify them of what doesn't work and they will…
Almost all scan tools, that are anything at all, have bi-directional controls. Have you looked under functional tests?
