ECM programming and coding. Do I have the equipment to do this
Customer called and wanted to know if I could program a new ECM for this vehicle. I don't have Xentry or Star diagnostics. I do have my LSID, Autel Maxisys, Autel 508 with the 608 package, Cardaq 3 plus, Cardaq 2, Xtool, and a handful of others.
Would this be something that could be done with a new factory ECM, or does anyone know of a good repair place for these. Only one I would recommended to him was Beckmann Technologies and they don't do these units.
Maxisys with active sub. and good internet connection will get it done.
Your Autel Maxisys with good internet connection will do the job for you.
I feel your pain having all that equipment and scratching your head wondering what to use and not end up with an awkward conversation and a new expensive door stop for the shop. I had success last fall with my Maxisys Ultra on a one year old newer GLK. You will have to be all up to date and active subscriptions but after some nail biting I pulled the trigger and it was as slick as can be. I was…
I recently did a mini cooper, and I know it's not apples to apples, but I assume the process might be similar, in that go to hot function or coding in the Ecm and it will walk you through it an use your internet connection to dial up and get the proper information to complete the job. Was any security stuff neeeded? Thanks so much
Not on my end, I don't now if you are required to or not as I haven't NOT tried to but I use a dedicated ethernet cable to the tablet and usb from tablet to VCMI. I don't trust anything wireless when it comes to my bank account balance.
I have had the Autel work as well. One word of caution. I have found recently they are having server issues and at times will not work. Had a ML I was coding a module for a body shop. It put the incorrect coding in swapped the headlight system from a w205 to a w222 so a bunch of other modules were setting codes looking for things it didn’t have. I had to use a Xentry to fix it, which prompted me…
yes even blue link remote programming will tell you up front that there is no guarantee at the moment for any scn coding or programming due to server issue from across the pond. I own autel and various other capable tools, autologic, autoland, ect. and I still opted to send it away to avoid the potential of fail or possibly other issues hard to resolve and then scrambling.
So it sounds like there is a possibility that this will work, but perhaps scramble the module, not necessarily brick it and OE mercedes is what it took to fix the screw up?
Yes I think more or less it’s the longevity of the programming that becomes an issue, not necessarily that it can’t be done. I’ve heard of no time frame in which the server issue , or whatever it is, will be sorted out.
I've heard this and looks like what I'll need to get to do some of the European Cars I'm getting called for. Another scan tool for my wish list.
Matthew, isacan is a great tool, I have been using it for over six years, if you are on the move, it may not work that great for you, but if you are a a shop this can probably do most of what you need but not a 100%, specially on Mercedes Benz.
Hi, sorry, I know this doesn’t apply. Me and my partner are really trying to succeed here. I mainly had a question. We recently moved into mobile programming, etc.. from just doing mobile fleet maintenance. Had to work up to the mobile programming. What are people using to program mobiley (internet wise) other than shops (customers facility) Wi-Fi? I feel A lot of manufacturers boosted there…
I recently went from .39mbs(lte) to anywhere from 30-400mbs(5g). I purchased a 5g phone and now pay for unlimited high speed mobile hot spot. It’s usually faster then what the shop wifi has. I’ve noticed a substantial difference. Especially while trying to view electrical diagrams on Alldata.
I'll be doing this Job next Wednesday or Thursday and informed my customer of the options and using my Autel and he said lets give that a try first so I'll report back.
I got to this job yesterday. I used my Autel Maxisys first and tried to get SCN coding from the network but no response there. I then Went to save ECM data and save SCN data, swapped modules and no start no crank. Only code in the PCM is for outside temperature sensor. I reinstalled the original PCM and it restarted so I tried my Autel MS in508 , saving the data, swapping the module and writing…
What I do know is that on Mercedes computer you have to virginice the ECM before programming.
So a used Ecm might not work? I had thought I had been told originally it would be a new Ecm but when I showed up he handed me a used one.
I believe it is possible, if your up to it to remove the immobilizer chip from old module and transfer to the new used one.
I would absolutely be up for it. Unfortunately I don't know what chip exactly the immobilizer one is, and I am wondering if it's really an “immobilizer” issue or a coding issue as it shows all keys as ok and ready and useable.
A used 273 unit needs to be unlocked before it can be installed in another car…your IM*** with Sub will do it… then use Max to do startup of new installed unit.
I didn't see an option to virginize or clear anything. I did try the automatic save information and startup of installed unit but had no luck there. Is it possibly because I presently don't have an active sub? Sorry for all the questions. This is my first European doing this. It's quite different than Asian and American.
I've updated all my tools and subscriptions and I cannot get this thing to start with a used PCM. They're pretty hard to find but I'm going to see if the shop can find another. I go through the whole process of storing the coding, using the automatic program and the manual version and after everything is done and finalized I got it to crank and die one time and that was it. Tried second key and…
