Be easy on me with this one, it was recorded over 3 years ago, so the quality is not great, not like all of mine are to begin with but this one was from very early on.

This one is one that I wanted to share because of the diag process that was involved with it and how I went about inspecting this one. I Found it cool because of how with testing procedures you are able to see and verify issues at hand. This isn't anything crazy just my approach on how I went about this one. Hope it helps some out here with giving ideas of testing and inspecting.

Thanks in advance

Hi Sadel, You did your due diligence as a diagnostic technician. Jobs like this are not easy, so quit worrying about the “made for television aspect”. This video represented everyday real life as a diagnostic technician. A scanner, to tell you where to look, then a scope to prove out the problem. Of course lets not forget about the hanging cluster and all the scope wires needed. LOL. This is…

Hi Sadel, I have the patience to do the meticulous work like this, but not to produce a video at the same time. I am glad there are real legitimate techs out there who take the time to share these videos and case studies with us. Back when I started out in the late 70's, it was a “figure it out for yourself” hostile environment in the shops. Of course back then technology was pretty basic…

Had a Tacoma that gave me a run around for a P0500 and ended up being a cluster but being impatient and seeing lots of sand and dirt under the vehicle I recommended the trans speed sensor which came back a couple days later so I broke out my scope and found after test driving it a couple hours that when hitting a large bump the signal would stop. Key off then on and it would come back…

yeah Erik, using the scope on this one definitely gave me a clear precise answer as to what and where the signal was missing

Nice one Sadel. I do appreciate the time taken to share your thought process. Your video shows that even a seemingly complex system by using a scope and the service info, renders it down to just a few test points and very few points of failure. As the IC showed the speed and live data showed sensors, that only left the IC output, the wire integrity and the connection at the ECU. Nicely proved…
