2019 Genesis G 80

I just spent $6000 on Genesis new GDS version (global diagnostic system) Hyundai and Kia, Hyundai is separating that brand from the rest of the vehicles although today they only have a handful of cars they built a separate server for diagnostic and service manuals and variant coding just for the Genesis brand, of course as an independent shop I will never see enough vehicles to cover the initial cost plus the $1400 yearly subscription to maintain my software, Genesis used to provide a very reasonable low cost online subscription for programming and diagnostic and coding all you need was the GM MDI2 & Pay your subscription download the software and you had full dealer access to all their systems including coding and programming, last month a body shop dropped off a vehicle to align and code a new Blindspot sensor on a 2019 G 80 after a rear end collision and quarter panel repair, After setting up Blindspot alignment & correction Jig CJP-907 From radarcollision.com i Align vertical horizontal perfect to factory specs, I plugged in the Hyundai GDS scan tool attempt to communicate with the vehicle trying different makes and models and years and I was unable to cood the new module, I even attempted with the Kia and it didn't work, so I tried my autel It failed to communicate with online server please check your Internet connection is the message I got, so I went online and logged in and paid my …-term subscription hooked up my J box in this case is the MDI2 from GM , I was up and running in five minutes communicating with the whole vehicle I was able to read all DTC's Then I realize that programming coding is not highlighted on the program not available special function active test nothing is available only available option was read and delete diagnostic trouble codes, so I emailed and called tech-support, A very nice tech support specialist explain to me their server has been hacked and are unable to secure the network they are under constant assault from hackers so they shut the server down and it's not available to the aftermarket community. And all 2018 and newer vehicles are equipped with OBD 2 security module in the vehicle, and only way to communicate with their vehicles, is with a tablet and VCI that is registered to the server will work ,

Wow I was thinking "AUTEL" Who else?

OK not so bad only two vehicles on the market today in the US that autel is obsolete Chrysler Fiat and now Genesis

Ford just recently changed their system from ids to an online program for the new vehicles I wonder if this is the end of the lifecycle for autel .

You should file an SIR, that's a direct violation of the R2R memorandum of understanding.

Thank you for your information I'm not here to convince you one way or another I'm not here to defend snap on Bosch or autel if you think all these are in the same category that's fine, the rest of the world understands that snap on and Bosch pay for their licensing software from the manufacturer and have resell licensing like Mitchell and all data have access to dealer service repair manuals…

Bosh, snap on and autel are the only scanners that chrysler fiat has a agreement with to allow access to the encrypted obd port Autel is not Chinese knock off, yes its made in China. Autel is light years ahead on snap on, I will put my im608 against any snap on scanner any day of the week. I do mobio programing, coding and car keys. The shops who…

Hyundai and Kia have implemented firewall (Security Gateway) on all cars since 2018 in order to block Chinese tools, like Autel to perform any functions beyond basic dtc and data viewing. There is also no need to subscribe for expensive genesis/kis/hyundai portals to get access to all functions, including keys programming. Gscan 3 is the tool which helps to solve all problems with Asian cars and…

Chinese diagnostic manufactures (Autel and Creader) have been sued by many auto makers and Snap-on; for various reasons. My Snap-on Verus Edge has been updated many times because of conflict with these companies.

The issue is, there are other tools which are not so aggressively promoted, but have superior coverage and features, comparing to launch and Autel. Generally, there is not need to spend 6000$ for OEM subscriptions for genesis cars at all. Especially for Korean cars, as most of ECUs come pre-programmed and require just VIN number write procedure after installation and common adaptation…

For the best Hyundai coverage in an aftermarket all purpose scan tool you want the G Scan 2 or 3, also has J2534 programming for Hyundai and KIA built in, ADAS Coverage as well. The Scan tool is made by EZDS/GIT the people who do the tooling for Hyundai, KIA.

Autel is releasing secure gateway access for Chrysler and Fiat next month. It dont think it was to keep the Chinese tool makers out. It was because those with programming and hacking skills demonstrated that they can gain access remotely, lock, unlock doors, start cars, turn them off just by hacking in remotely. This kind of caused the auto manufacturers to step up their game in a panic…
