Successfully programmed used power steering module using custom script and dps
Vehicle had used power steering control module with different vin number.
Power steering was functional but had a steering notification upon every ignition.
With the growing chip shortage more and more vehicles are having a hard time getting parts. It is now worth a shot to get a used module and program it to the vehicle.
I think GM should allow used parts if they can't provide new parts in a timely manner.
Global A Architecture doesn't allow used modules with the dealership tool. Because of demand i've developed a way to do this remotely.
If you have a j2534 and stable internet I can use custom script to reset the vin of most GM modules within the vehicle it requires some setting up but it works.
If you want more info on my service feel free to contact over skype @abe…
**I'm just gonna add this because I know some will disagree with what I did. That's ok I don't do this for your approval I did it to help someone repair their car man.
No I used a J2534 snap on pass thru using dps its gm development software.
Even though I have I/o terminal but when you don't have the original part and clone its very hard to change the vin and check sum it without the part dying on you. I've tried….
Hey, I was trying it on a 2014 Town & Country with used TIPM last week & wasn't able to. WiTech said it can’t be done. I have a couple J2534’s. I don’t have Skype Tim …
Hey Tim, on tipms its another world. I know a few people here in town have systems to edit the bootloader to change the vin on those. But it has to be done by boot meaning opening them up and hack it. Alfa obd software is a great alternative to test programming capabilities. But you need an elm247 cable not the j2534 cable.
Talk to Michael Christopherson. He is a distributor for TIPM renew and other chrysler stuff. It works best with a cardaq M though. I don’t know if other j2534s will work. Talk to him for more info
Do you have a contact # for Michael? Thank you, Tim …
Hi Abraham, good info to know, but scary situation because in all my data training, they always say if it global A don't do it, I even had instructors like dave hobbs and maybe john thorton, say that they have been to shops and as soon as you key up the other modules will see a different VIN number and think it's a theft attempt and lock out and the only way out of trouble is to replace all the…
You're completely right these modules have environmental IDs that sometimes require resetting if is triggered. This was on a vehicle that was vats off since it would not start initially. I see allot of ecu and tcm cases that just dont have parts available. This is experimental. But its pretty basic.
I’ve done many used power steering modules using Techline Connect. As well as a bunch of other module it supposedly won’t do. Ends with the right vin, no lights, no codes. Do a radio or engine module and I will be impressed
Let me know when you have a radio I know how to do it!
Allen I did 2 used Global A radios last week using Techline connect/ SPS2… These used car dealers are willing to pay to try and they keep coming because about 75% of them actually work. Engine modules are easily done with I/O Terminal.
