BMW hybrid question

I am looking to buy this car and have no option to diag it before purchase. I dont have much experience with the BMW hybrid systems and in all my experience with hybrids the high voltage battery will not cause the car not to start. This car is being sold as a no start due to a failed high voltage battery. I suspect either it is miss diagnosed or they are trying to hide other issues with the car.

Anyone have any experience with this system, will a failed high voltage battery cause a no crank no start. I am comfortable rebuilding a lithium battery.

Mark, The 2011 BMW hybrid 7 (F04) does not have a conventional starter. It uses the Emachine to start the combustion engine. If there are HV faults or issues with the HV battery, it will result in a no-start. The 2012 model year delivered the F02H which uses the Emachine and a starter/Generator. Regards, Eric …

Any way you could at least a code scan before purchasing? I'd be interested in what has been set. Not specially on BMWs, but I've seen tampering with hybrid systems to prevent the vehicle from starting to mask other issues. For example: I had a customer purchase a Prius sight unseen that wouldn't Ready-up. I found missing fuses, the HV battery service disconnect missing and the inverter plug…

Agreed that is what I am suspecting although it does appear these cars have a lot of battery issues.

As Eric stated the Emachine starts it hi voltage battery failures are unfortunately common and most avoid repairing the car. I have had 4 clients send to auction over it

I don't see it either, oh well, so it's an F04 with a V8. E machine is in the bell housing . Similar set up as you would find with a Honda IMA setup. Only thing that would worry me is if the N63 engine locked up as they have their oil consumption issues and have been known to seize on occasion.... would be nice to know that the engine turns newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f04…
