2006 Jeep Liberty Diesel glow plug module programming
Does anyone know what hardware can be used to program a new glow plug module to this 06 Jeep Liberty Diesel? I tried the WiTech via Snap-On Pass Thru Pro II with no success. The WiTECH will not read the Vin. The Dealer says the PCM needs to be replaced because the topology won’t let them into the PCM. (There is no availability on a new PCM from Chrysler.) I couldn’t get to the topology screen with our WiTECH, so I’m wondering if they are even getting that far with their WiTECH. Does this need to be programmed with the DRBIII? There is a TSB for this new glow plug module and new glow plugs where the voltage is lower to prevent premature glow plug failure. The TSB says up to 2005 program with DRBIII and 2006 and later program with WiTECH. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
DRB required. Liberty was not WiTech till body style changed in 2008.
Actually, the Liberty became a witech (canbus) vehicle in 2006. Here is a handy chart that shows when the various vehicles changed from DRB3 to Witech.
Cliff, The best tool for the job is the Star Mobile. It can run legacy software or early Witech software. It will see all the modules. The Autel works well with these too but lacks the programming ability. I am not sure how you would load the needed calibration, but you can usually get the Star Mobile on Ebay cheap. I will be in Arizona in two weeks and can bring mine if it is helpful to you…
I used to have a customer that had several of these. The DRB III or emulator version will do what you are asking. I was able to use wiTech for some modules and DRB III for others. It is like a semi CAN vehicle. DRB III handled PCM, SKIM, and one other module, wiTech communicated with the rest. I did do a PCM swap with the DRB III and rewrote the injectors. Just make sure that you have the…
As mentioned by others… the diesel Liberty 2005 & 2006 both used the DRBIII. The gasoline powered liberty used Witech/star mobile from 2006 on. I know because I own a diesel one. As for the glow plug programming… the glow plug “module” itself does not require any programming, its basically just a relay. The latest version of the glow plug “module” will work with either the 5v or 7v glow…
