2008 Highlander Hybrid Smart Key Register
Anyone know of something I'm missing here. This is a car I actually just purchased, it only has one key. I purchased another key and have tried So,Autel and Launch to program the new key with no success. I even grabbed a known good OE key from another car and tried it with no success. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I don’t do many keys but I think with Toyota you have a master key and valet key. If you do not have a master key you can not add a key.
Find your security light , If it goes out as soon as you start to insert the orig key you have a master. If the light stays on for 1-2 sec before going out you have a valet. Valet would require a immo reset .Make sure driver door is open and key chime is working . No key chime , no key programming If this is a prox most likely you have the wrong prox. Open the original and get all the numbers…
The known good key from another car won't work unless you “re-virginize” it. The vehicle ID is written to the key when it is initially registered. Can't register a key unless the vehicle ID is blank. It's possible that's the case with your new key as well (actually registered to another vehicle already). Another possibility (especially if it's an aftermarket key) is that it's bad. You should be…
It is a new aftermarket key, I ordered it based on the circuit board number, the vehicle does beep and the light on the key flashes when trying to register it but it doesn't add it. Could be a faulty key.
If you only get 1 beep it sees the new key but doesn’t like it .I bet if you get an orig key new or recond with the exact numbers as the working key it will work.
If the vehicle is Transponder equipped(which sounds as tho it is), I believe it uses the 4D67 chipped key…..which typically has a ‘Dot’ on the blade of key….which is located just below the head of key on the blade…..both keys should have this ‘Dot’. Another EASY way around this, would be to Clone out the key….but im doubting U would have the means to perform this task….check with your local…
You said smart key so Im assuming it is a proximity key. If that is the case then you can not “add” used keys. You can only add virgin or unlocked keys. However if you reset the smart box (erase all the keys) then you can add the used key and your original key back no problem. Not sure which autel your using but dont think the 908/maxisys elite work to well on resetting Toyota's.
I many try the reset today, It is a new key although it is no OE. It is a proxy key, no blade. I do remember adding a used key to my prius required a reset before it would work.
The key reset procedure (both smart and blade) takes approximately 16minutes. Do not forget to use external power source as correct voltage above 12V is very critical in that time, brought many troubles for those who had not do it.
Well I went out to mess with it today before leaving work and now neither key works and the ignition will not turn on. I guess I will be calling the locksmith Monday.
Anyone know of a locksmith that serves the austell, ga area that might could help. The other locksmith came out today but couldn't get it to enter programming mode. The push button does not light up, I'm assuming because no key is programmed for it? Not sure what to do at this point.
First things first. The key you want to use or program. Make sure it’s been cleared (Virginized) if you bought it from a distributor that says it’s been cleared. Doesn’t matter do it again. Had and many keys come back as not cleared. Anyways. Clear the key if you want to do add key.if you don’t or can’t clear it. Do a smart box reset. And it will wipe all keys(16 mins) Then add…
