GM Programming
I have a 2015 Corvette in the bay that needs the ABS module programmed. Called GM and due to it having a salvage title they wont give me the security code. Any other place where I can get the security code, or do I have to take it to the dealership.
It's because the module is used. Dealership will not program a used module either - 99% of the time. You'll have to clone it, or get a new one.
If its a used module it can not be programmed to that vehicle due to it beaning a global a vehicle. Its new only
The abs module is new from the dealer
GM will refuse any assistance on a salvage title even at the dealer level. Only option is buy new or send the original one into one of the repair facilities you can find online such as myairbags.com/product/chevro…
Thanks for that link. Adding that to my list!
Hi Marcos: Josh stated what I was told. GM will not provide support for any vehicle with a "branded title" other than emission calibrations required by law. Taken to its logical conclusion, if they archive the calibration file for a module (remove it from the server), oh well. If the file is there, great. If not,... Guido
“Security code” on a non-immobilizer module? thats a new one on me.
Hi Rusty: Get used to it. According to a customer of mine, that vehicle requires VSP credentials to reprogram a trans module. Guido
Hi Guido, Are you talking about the same message being displayed as what Marcos posted? Nothing is mentioned about that on GM SI - Document 3964981, K71 Transmission Control Module: Programming and Setup 8L45/90
Hi Scott: I didn't see the message since I wasn't there. The procedure was a reprogramming on a 2017 Vette. Kind of got my attention. Guido
Hi Marcos, Josh stated GM's position on this, so it wouldn't matter if it were sent to the dealer, they're going to have the same issue - maybe. It's been hit or miss whether or not I see that message. There seems to be no rhyme or reason (at least that I'm aware of) to have that pop up, and it's not that common. gm-techlink.com/?p=7465 Have you tried logging out and start a…
I'd like to add that I've successfully programmed GM modules that have been on salvaged vehicles without seeing that pop up. Back when this started, I had a totaled 2017 Cadillac XT5 come in by way of a tow truck in 2017. The guy was nuts as he paid 12k for a salvaged vehicle that needed to be loaded onto a flatbed with a fork lift. Ya' think this would have raised some flags and put the brakes…
Hi Scott: I have 2 thoughts here. Please note that they are both speculation. The first thought is that you got to the car before the VIN was flagged by GM in their server. The second though, you may be able to help me out with. I forget the name of the utility which installs (or attempts to) with SPS. It is designated as "security" something. It begins with an "I" and is a 4 letter acronym…
Hi John: I think that was it. What can you share? Guido
Hi Guido, As John mentioned the file is IVCS. I did a search on the laptop I used - C -->Program Files (x86)-->General Motors-->TIS2Web-->IVCS5BCP and found the log files. I'm not using this laptop anymore, but there were 3 log files, with the first instance being 4/6/2016. All log files showed that this program installed successfully. The XT5 I mentioned was first programmed…
Hi Scott: As far as your last paragraph goes, not to sound trite but if you're looking for an argument from me, you're in the wrong place. I have no inside knowledge of what GM is doing. I am left to believe that they have attempted to make too many system-wide changes at the same time. That goes against everything a first year I/t person was ever taught. How could this happen? My guess is…
Anthony, There seems to be way too much "silo" mentality in the OE world. This mentality has driven me to the point of extreme frustration. You can thank this mentality for a lot of this industry's issues. Think about why parts are called one thing in service/wiring and another in the parts program. I know we all have been there many times. I also believe the OE insulates itself with this…
Hi John, I'm thankful for having access to the catalogs with parts diagrams now. I was tired of playing the faxing game to get to the correct diagram. SI calls it this, but GMSPO calls it something completely different. No wonder we couldn't find it. Yeah, it'd be to easy to step out of your silo and get on the same page as the rest of the organization.
Hi Guido, I'm not frustrated with you, but at some point you have to get tired of preaching to the choir. I don't care what activity, hobby, or what I've done for a living - there's always going to be a segment that screws it up for everyone. Boats, jet ski's, motorcycles, guns, and anything else you can imagine there are people that screw it up for the masses. This is no different - with…
I ran into this exact message earlier this year, while attempting to programming a EBCM in a 2014 Cadillac ATS. It also was a brand new Module from the Dealer. I was able to call AcDelco Support, and they gave me the Code, after making me go into to several Modules and prove the VINs from these all matched.
Because it's a salvage title you need to go into every single module in the car with GDS2 and make sure the VIN in EACH individual module matches the one on the windshield.
Please read this as it may help.
